Water Shogun Aqual is a member of the Three Shoguns and a major character in Chousei Kantai Sazer-X, initially appearing as a major antagonist before becoming a supporting protagonist in the final arc.

She was originally a member of Space Pirate Fleet Descal until she defected after being forced to serve Neo Descal when they came from the future and she lost her motive to take over Earth.

She is voiced by Yuu Asakawa.

History[]

Aqual arrived on Earth with the rest of the Descal fleet. She and the other Shoguns were ordered by Captain Barder to collect the Cosmo Capsules so they could use them to conquer Earth. In the original timeline, Aqual and her fellow Shoguns were successful in gathering all the Cosmo Capsules. After using them to take over Earth, Aqual's descendants would go on to form part of the Neo Descal regime that evolved out of Descal.

Later, when lightning struck the ship and caused Barder to short circuit, Aqual and Cyclead pondered what to do, while Blaird became doubtful of the mission and chose to only focus on his rivalry with Takuto. Aqual and the other Shoguns eventually agreed to stay on Earth long enough to defeat Sazer-X and then return to space. They summoned Bankein to help them but he was defeated, prompting them to flee. They then found themselves approached by Grouza, a Neo Descal member who had traveled back in time to help them defeat Sazer-X and ensure the timeline stayed the same. When Sazer-X destroyed Balgareon, Grouza saved all three shoguns by teleporting them and herself to the Galeo Rogue ship commanded by Garade. Aqual initially did not want to serve under Garade and Grouza, but was swayed by Grouza's flattery and began trying to impress them. In contrast, Blaird did not like the Neo Descal and refused to serve them, leading Aqual to declare him a traitor and make multiple attempts to defeat him.

However, Aqual and Cyclead's repeated failures and displays of incompetence soon caused them to fall out of failure with the Neo Descal commanders, leading both Garade and Grouza to pick on them. When Grouza had her demoted to being Garade's cook, Aqual decided she had had enough and attempted to assassinate Grouza with what she believed was a ray gun, but what was actually a massage gun. After Grouza disappeared due to changes to the timeline, Aqual tried to get rid of Garade next and tried shooting him while he was piloting the Galeo King against Sazer-X, but was only able to wound him. A furious Garade then attempted to kill both her and Cyclead, but was stopped when King Neo Descal killed him from behind, having arrived from the future to take command of the invasion.

Following their arrival, King Neo Descal and his assistant Barreda brought Aqual and Cyclead aboard their flagship Neo Deark, where they feigned reverence to the two Shoguns in order to manipulate them into doing as they wanted. When Aqual formulated another plan to use a Cosmo Capsule to lure Sazer-X into a trap, King Neo Descal assigned Dagos to assist her, in order to use her to distract Sazer-X and buy himself and Barreda time while they worked on their real plan. Aqual soon began to grow suspicious of the two when she noticed a personality change in Cyclead, who Neo Descal and Barreda had brainwashed into becoming much more evil and megalomaniacal as well as easier to control. Despite this, Aqual was still reluctant to join up with Sazer-X due to them being enemies.

Although Takuto and Blaird were eventually able to convince her to turn against Neo Descal, Aqual chose to keep pretending to be evil in order to earn King Neo Descal's trust so he would show her where he was keeping the Cosmo Capsules. After capturing Takuto, Remy and Blaird, Aqual presented them all before King Neo Descal to prove herself to him, but Neo Descal saw through her act and tortured her with electricity. However, Ein and Zwein then showed up to rescue Sazer-X and Blaird, giving Aqual an opportunity to escape with them.

Aqual later assisted Sazer-X in capturing Cyclead. After she and Blaird brought him to the Ando household, they tried to get him to come to his senses, but were unsuccessful until Blaird took off his hat and discovered the mind control device he had planted on his head. After the device was removed, the now reformed Three Shoguns participated in the final battle against Neo Descal.

After Neo Descal was defeated and Takuto wished for the future where they reigned to be undone, Aqual and her fellow Shoguns were each assigned a different Cosmo Capsule to protect. Once they bid farewell to Takuto and the rest of Sazer-X, they left Earth to return into space.

Trivia[]

  • Aqual is the only member of the Three Shoguns not to have any confirmed Neo-Descal descendants. Although it is implied that Commander Shark is descended from her, as he is also a water elemental.
