Arata Hinohara (日ノ原 革, Hinohara Arata) is one of the main characters of the manga, Arata: The Legend. He was an ordinary troubled teenager pulled through another dimension to the world of Amawakuni where he is put into a contest to become the world's emperor. Both main characters are named Arata but modern Arata goes by Hinohara to avoid confusion when both boys converse. He is also called the Emperor of Hinowa.
Appearance[]
Hinohara has ginger hair and hazel eyes. Wears a school uniform consisting of tan dress pants a brown tailor jacket with a white dress shirt underneath. Sometimes he wears athletic clothes consisting of jogging pants and windbreaker.
Personality[]
Arata Hinohara is a shy, quite person who doesn’t like to stand out and tends to not have much self confidence, is athletic, and he also sticks to his morals as to what is right and wrong and he will stand up to someone who is getting hurt because of him. He is also from present day Japan, and ran track in middle school. His name Arata uses the kanji used in revolution. The bullying restarts and when Hinohara wishes he had never been born he is pulled into Amawakuni. He is frightened of his new surroundings, and horrified that he is blamed for Himeou's death which he angrily protests against. Hinohara's time in the new world helps him grow as a person as he begins to find himself and put trust in others. Thanks to Kotoha,s influence, Hinohara vows that he should love himself and how his life does have a meaning: protecting those who can't protect themselves.
Biography[]
Hinohara is a freshman in highschool. On the first day of school, he saved Nishijima from being mistaken for a groper and apprehended the actual perpetrator and became famous for it. The various sports clubs from school ask him to join because they saw his fast running speed, but Hinohara rejects the offers, still sore from the events from middleschool.
During middleschool, he was in track along with Kadowaki and the two were among the best of the club. When Kadowaki felt like Hinohara refused to go full speed against him, he began to bully Hinohara badly. He left the track club and even stopped going to school, but the move onto highschool was supposed to be a new start.
Unfortunately, Kadowaki ends up transferring to Hinohara's school and the bullying resumes, with Hinohara's famous groper-attack being seen as a set-up to gain fame. When Hinohara wishes to disappear from his world, he follows a voice and trades places with Arata and lands in Amawakuni.
Plot[]
The first Arata lives with his grandmother Makari and childhood friend Kotoha in a magical world where gods inhibit swords named Hayagamiand let their chosen wielders, named Shou, use their special powers. Arata is the next in line to become the princess, the world's ruler. Too bad he was born a man, so he has to crossdress and hope nobody finds out, in which case he will be executed. However, during the crowning ceremony he is not only exposed, but the current princess Kikuri is assassinated and Arata gets the blame. As he tries to escape into a mystical forest, he is swallowed by trees.
The other Arata, last name Hinohara, lives in modern day Japan with his parents and younger sister Nao. We meet him on his first day of highschool, where he quickly becomes popular after catching a groper. Not long afterwards, a dedicated bully named Kadowaki, who traumatized him in middle school, transfers in and completely ruins his reputation. When Kadowaki gets even his last friend to betray him, Hinohara wishes he would just disappear, and he somehow gets swallowed by an alley.

- Hinohara's favorite foods are curry, hamburger and cafe au lait.
