Arlo Beauregard is a alligator boy and the main character of the 2021 Netflix animated film Arlo the Alligator Boy.
He is voiced by Michael J. Woodard
Appearance[]
Arlo is a hybrid of a human boy with a green alligator who has scarlet hair, wears a white shirt, blue trousers with just one suspender.
Personality[]
Arlo is a positive, creative and friendly child and is always seeing the positive side of things and during the same film, has a strange habit of watching the boats from New Orleans passing in front of his swamp.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Singing Skills: Arlo's main talent is his love and passion for singing. As demonstrated in both the movie and his own TV Series, he has an astounding singing voice, and is a really great singer. His singing is often captivated by Bertie, whereas it annoys Marcellus. He has a tenancy to sing what he says, or lapse into song mid-sentence.
- Music: In addition to his singing talents, Arlo is also good at playing various instruments; in the movie, he owns a handmade cigar box guitar, which he presumably leaves behind on the way to New York. In his riverboat imagination and in some episodes of the series, he plays a banjo.
- Dancing Skills: Likewise with his passions for singing and making music, Arlo is also shown to be a a very talented dancer.
- Swimming Skills: Like all alligators, Arlo is a really good swimmer. First demonstrated in the film, Arlo can swim at really fast speeds and can stay under the water for prolonged periods of time. Usually when he gets out of the water, he dries off in no time, although there are rare times where he does remain wet.
- Speed/Agility: In addition to his swimming skills, Arlo is shown to run really really fast and has excellent agility skills. In some situations Arlo himself can either walk or run on all four legs if he wanted to (like most alligators and crocodiles usually do, minus walking upright).
- Prehensile tail: He can use his long tail as a third leg, as shown in "Be the Turtle".
- Skin shedding: As seen in "The Shedding", "Blow Out" and "Swamp Itch", he sheds his skin at least once per year, which can sometimes disturb some people.
- Sharp Teeth: He can use his extremely sharp teeth to chomp things apart, like in "The Uncondemning" when he tries to free Ruff and Stucky from their briar prison, and later when he bites himself free of the Bog Lady's grasp, and finally when freeing Edmée from her vine cage.
- Climbing: As seen in "The Uncondemning", Arlo is very good at climbing trees real fast.
Biography[]
Arlo the Alligator Boy[]
After his birth, his father ended up abandoning his own son throwing him into the sea, after traveling several kilometers of the open sea he ended up arriving in the swamp of New Orleans, where it is found by Edmeé, who adopts it immediately.
Ten years later when Arlo turned ten years earlier, Edmeé tells his whole story after discovering that Ansel Beauregard is his biological father he sets out on a trip to New York to find his father figure during the same film and he is hunted by the two hunters, Ruff, Stucky and his pet beast.
I ♥ Arlo[]
In the spin-off, Arlo resides in a coinjoined flat with Bertie at Seaside. Throughout the first season, Arlo helps Seaside prepare for its "Uncondemning" party, to celebrate its vitality and how special it is. Initially, he wanted to live alone, but he soon found it hard and didn't like living alone, so Bertie decided to combine their apartments together so they can live as housemates. Arlo also recieves various care packages from Edmée daily, one in particular being his pet bullfrog Jeromio, who missed him. Unknown to him however, a mysterious dark entity begins spying on Edmée back in the swamp.
Near the end of the season, Arlo recieves a warning from Edmée that she's being followed and is in danger, but when the follow-up package does not arrive, he assumes someone stole it and begins accusing everyone in town. Fortunately, Bertie finds the package when it got misrouted to the wrong person; it contains a ransom note from Ruff and Stucky saying they got Edmée and demand ransom within 24 hours for her release. Along with his friends, Arlo uses Ansel's yacht to return to the swamp, only to find it more gloomy and dark than when he remembered. Once inside the shack, they find Ruff and Stucky, but not Edmée; the hunters confess while they did send the ransom note and kidnap Edmée, it was not their idea, as it was really an order given to them by a dangerous creature called the Bog Lady. The two proceed to tell Arlo and his gang about her dark nature and it's Arlo whom she's especially after, and she took Edmée to the Heart of the Swamp before fleeing.
Arlo reaches the Heart, but his friends have not followed, because the Bog Lady tricked Bertie and Alia with a fake doppleganger of Arlo and sunk the yacht before Tony, Furlecia and Marcellus. He encounters the Bog Lady, surprised that she knows his name, because she had been secretly protecting him all his life since he first came to the swamp as a baby, and demands he apologize for leaving the swamp and promise never to leave her again. Naturally, Arlo refuses, and demands where Edmée is; the Bog Lady then reveals she trapped her in a vine cage as bait to lure Arlo to her; Arlo tries to free her, but he is immediately outmatched when the Bog Lady snags him up in her local plant life and hypnotizes him into never leaving her grasp. Fortunately, he is able to come to his senses when he hears Bertie and Alia calling him and swinging into the Heart, allowing him to break free of the Bog Lady and save Edmée.
Marcellus then manages to reunite Arlo and the others with a fan boat he found with the addition of planting a tracking device to Bertie, but the Bog Lady siezes control of the shack and holds them high. Arlo tearfully apologizes to Edmée for leaving and he shouldn't have left in the first place, but she reassures him he still did the right thing. Arlo realizes what she's talking about and gets the Bog Lady's attention, claiming she's right and the swamp is part of her like it's a part of him as well; and even though he doesn't live there anymore, it will always be part of where he's going. He then asks the Bog Lady for forgiveness, but she refuses and decides to eat them instead to his shock. Luckily, Edmée activates a self-destruct mechanism on the shack, causing it to explode with the Bog Lady right on top of it, freeing Arlo and his gang as the Bog Lady melts into the swamp waters, never to be seen again.
In the end, Arlo makes it back to Seaside with his friends and Edmée in tow just in time for the Uncondemning, and he sings and celebrates with his friends as he embraces Seaside as a true home to him.
