Iron Arry and Iron Bert (or simply just Arry and Bert) are one of the antagonists in the Thomas the Tank Engine franchise. They are a duo of scheming and devious diesel engines who are willing to scrap other engines.
Arry is usually the initiator of the duo, as evidenced in a few episodes such as "Stepney Gets Lost" and "Middle Engine", while Bert is the one who carries out the instructions.
Arry and Bert are scheming, mischievous, villainous, rude and devious troublemakers who are willing to kill engines by scrapping them.
Arry and Bert, along with Diesel, like to be rough and tough, but they realised Diesel wanted to be nice to everyone.
Despite being antagonistic and devious, Arry and Bert have committed heroic deeds as they occasionally help others restore the dieselworks in Day of the Diesels and they helped clean up the wreckage in Calling All Engines. They were also nice to the ducklings, and Arry and Bert thought they were cute just like how Diesel thought they were cute.
Arry and Bert are both based on BR Class 08 0-6-0. They are the most successful shunting engines in the world, as there were 996 of them built. Other diesels such as Devious Diesel, Splatter, Dodge, Paxton and Sidney are also members of the same class as Arry and Bert.
- Arry and Bert are not quite identical as Bert has more stubble.
- Bert is the first character in the franchise to have the same name with another character.
