~ Aryll |
Aryll is a recurring character from The Legend of Zelda series. She is the younger sister of Toon Link and so far his only confirmed sibling. She lives on Outset Island with Link and their unnamed grandmother and she longed to learn how to carry jars on her head like Sue-Belle so she can help her grandmother with her chores. When she is mistaken for Tetra and gets kidnapped by the Helmaroc King, on orders from Ganondorf, who had been searching for Princess Zelda, to bring any girl with long pointed ears to him. Her abduction leads Link to not only set off to save her, but also save the world from Ganon.
Personality[]
Due to her short window of screen-time she has, not much of Aryll's personality is known, but she is very kind and true to her friends and family and cares deeply for her grandmother and Link. She even fears for others well-being, even people she doesn't know at all, such as when Tetra is dropped into the Forest of Fairies, she becomes very worried about her and suggests that Link finds a weapon to use to defend himself against monsters. She usually goes to the watch tower to look through her telescope and play with the seagulls. Aryll has a sense of responsibility as she enjoys doing chores for her grandmother and even the pirates during her stay at the pirate ship without complaint. She also has a somewhat mischievous side, as she admitted to Link in her letter that she likes to take Mako's glasses knowing that it was his major pet peeve.
Appearance[]
Aryll is fair-skinned with blonde hair tied into two loose low pigtails with light blue hair ties. She normally wears a sleeveless light blue dress with red tropical flowers and has brown sandals on her feet. In the ending of the first playthrough and the entire second playthrough, she has maroon hair ties and a sleeveless maroon dress with a skull design on it.
Biography[]
Aryll is first seen outside her house and calling for her brother and then trots down the path to the watchtower where she finds him sleeping. She then reminds Link that his birthday has come and that their grandmother asked her to let him know that she is waiting for him at their house and suggests seeing what she wanted, and he does so. When Link returns to the watchtower where she comments on his new clothes telling him that they might get too warm to wear, but she compliments his look (in the second playthrough, she points out that he always wears the same clothes, as the Hero's New Clothes are invisible, but she still compliments it anyway) She then presents him the telescope to him and tells him that she will be lending it to him for one day. Link looks at the red postbox where a postman named Quill was making a delivery and he becomes agitated by something in the sky and Aryll suddenly cries out and Link looks up and notices a giant bird holding a girl in its talons and it was evading a pirate ship which was catapulting rocks at it and the pirates soon get a clear shot which caused the bird to drop the girl into the forest of Outset Island. Worried about the girl and aware of the bird's presence, Aryll urges Link to find something to protect himself with in case he gets attacked.
After Link gets the Hero's Sword from Orca and saved the girl named Tetra, who is the pirate captain, Aryll greets Link from the other side and begins crossing the suspension bridge. Unfortunately, the bird noticed her and swipes her away, much to Link's horror. According to Quill, the bird had been kidnapping girls with long pointed ears and it had likely mistaken Aryll for Tetra and took her instead, which Tetra reluctantly agrees to bring Link along on their ship to travel to the Forsaken Fortress where she was held captive. Their grandmother was also distraught over Aryll's fate when she gives Link the Hero's Shield.
During his first visit to the Forsaken Fortress, he resorted to stealth due to losing his sword and made his way to the top where he retrieves it. Aryll is seen with two girls named Mila and Maggie, from Windfall Island and she was happy to see Link, but just before he could break them free, he is ambushed by the same bird and takes him skyward, leaving Aryll dismayed. Link is then tossed away from the fortress on orders from Ganondorf, but he was saved by a boat who goes by the name King of Red Lions.
When Link gathers the Sacred Pearls travels to the lost kingdom of Hyrule and acquires the Master Sword, he returns to the Forsaken Fortress to save Aryll and this time he was more successful as the pirates had to fend off the Helmaroc King when it was about to attack him again. Tetra arrives with Gonzo and Nudge who manage to open the door and carry Mila and Maggie out respectively while Link and Aryll are happy to see each other again. Tetra then reminds Link that he has to deal with the bird while she returns Aryll home and tells the latter that Link has to do some very important things. Gonzo informs Tetra about the bird and she orders him to take Aryll with him. Later, Aryll writes a letter to Link (and sending 20 Rupees in the process) about her time on the pirate ship and talks about each of the pirates, with Gonzo being a big guy who has been crying a lot since Tetra left which she finds kind of funny but a bit sad, Nudge a little strange, but still nice, and Senza's beard making him look mean but tells cool stories when he's in the right mood. She also mentions that Zuko is a little weird and Mako being quiet most of the time, but gets mad whenever she tried to swipe his glasses and does that often to get a reaction out of him and Niko often goofing around while missing Link. She does their chores and even paid her a little. She allows him to hold on to her telescope a little longer and reminds him to return it when they meet again, and ends with her wishing him luck.
Aryll remains with the pirates for the remainder of the game and isn't seen again until the ending, where she waves to Link and Tetra from the crow's nest and is wearing a maroon dress with the skull design instead of her light blue dress with a tropical flower pattern. She is last seen waving good-bye to Link as he and the pirates set off to find and settle on a new land.
Other Appearances[]
Aryll also made an appearance in Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Legends where she uses a Pirate's Charm to speak for Link which allowed him to remain a silent hero and she is aware of what is happening through this stone.
Aryll also makes an appearance as a Trophy and a Sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and once again as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. 4.
