Ashley Campbell is one of the three secondary protagonists (alongside Larry Johnson and Todd Morrison), as well as a playable character, of the 2016 video game Sally Face.
Ash is the friend of Sal Fisher, Larry, and Todd, who went to the same high school in Nockfell. One day, however, she later winds up inadvertently uncovering the activities regarding the Devourers of God, an ancient supernatural cult whose plan is to bring the Red-Eyed Demon to Earth who would take measures to stop their goals from happening, after revealing the math teacher Mrs. Packerton to be one of its members.
When her friend Sal was falsely accused and later executed by the authorities who seemingly worked with the cult, after futilely stopping the infection around Addison Apartments in 1999, she later takes measures in stopping them, where she is joined by Larry's ghost, Sal's ghost, and later Travis Phelps.
Empowered by Sal's ghost, Ashley was able to defeat the cultists, thus ultimately destroying the cult and their plans to spread the Plague of Shadows on Earth permanently.
Appearance[]
Ashley has green eyes and brown hair. She had really long hair when she was a teen, past her waist. She wore a pale greenish-grey pair of shoes, dark grey leggings or slacks, a black choker, and a purple sweater dress.
She has short hair now that she is an adult so she can ride her motorcycle. She is dressed in cut-off dark grey pants, a purple short-sleeved shirt, and a leather jacket. She also adorns a silver pendant on her necklace and a pair of grey fingerless gloves.
She's been infused with Sal's spirit, and now her left eye is light blue and her left arm is glowing bright blue with otherworldly energy.
Personality[]
She clearly is fairly kind-hearted and tolerant of Sal even when his mask is missing, and she assists with the bologna mystery while also healing Sal with his injured face after being hit by Travis Phelps. She's the only person in the group who doesn't think ghosts exist, it should be mentioned.
She enjoys creating art and is the best in the group. It is revealed that Ashley was an old friend of Larry's and that she is responsible for teaching him everything he knows about art.
The two kept in touch when Sal was a student, and they even went on what might be considered a date to Lake Wendigo to share memories and problems.
Background[]
Meeting Sal[]
A few months after Charley Mansfield's imprisonment, Ashley meets Sal Fisher for the first time. After their tutoring session, Sal went to Todd's residence and saw Ashley; however, they just exchanged a quick welcome before parting ways.
The Bologna Incident[]
Ashley, Larry, Todd, and Sal had become inseparable friends in the days before the Bologna incident, and she readily confronts Travis Phelps for harassing Sal in the hallways.
After exchanging wits, Travis hit Sal in the face. Sal refuses Ashley's offer to exact revenge on the bully once she heals the wound.
After Nockfell High serves a particularly bad batch of bologna, Ashley volunteers to work with Sal to discover where the lunch meat came from. Her efforts at the school were in vain since, contrary to what she had first thought, there was no proof in the janitor's closet.
Ashley was too busy watching after her little brother Benjamin to look into Mrs. Packerton's Apartment Room 201, the source of the bologna.
She swiftly drives to Addison Apartments when her father gets home early to help with the ongoing odd investigation of the meat. They approach a room containing newspaper cuttings of the Nockfell High children who have gone missing, numerous sharp instruments, and a trunk full of deboned flesh after unintentionally frightening Larry and Sal.
Having concluded the investigation, the gang departs until Campbell stumbles onto a waste chute tucked away behind a picture of a farm and unintentionally descends it into the temple of the Devourers of God tucked away under Addison Apartments.
Ashley collides with a mound of bones that most likely formerly belonged to the missing students, knocking her unconscious. Fortunately, Sal and Larry discover her and successfully remove her from the enigmatic complex.
When the group gets back to the surface, they discuss how to deal with Mrs. Packerton in order to stop her from killing more innocent people. Todd agrees when Larry recommends killing the elderly teacher, but Ashley and Sal reject the notion. Finally, the group agrees to give it some thought. They learn that Packerton had been murdered by a drunk driver the next morning.
The Devourers' Plot[]
Sal and Ash went on a "date" to Lake Wendigo on the day of the Addison Apartments Massacre in 1999 in order to catch up and make up for missed time. Ashley understands Sal's recurrent nightmares and struggles to experience true calm even after the local cult had disbanded. The two shout to the heavens to release their tension.
Later, Sal called Ash several times, explaining the Devourers of God's scheme as it developed and the growth of the Red-Eyes illness. Sal didn't want Ash to call the police, but she did so anyway, and when she arrived at the Addison Apartments, she saw Sal covered in blood and babbling to himself.
Ashley was persuaded that Sal was a victim of his own mental illness and should be committed in order to obtain the right care, despite the fact that she testified against him. To Ash's dismay, Sal's claim of insanity was rejected in favour of the death by electric chair thanks to a tenacious prosecutor and testimony from a substituted Clare Nettles and Dr. Enon.
In the three years that followed, Ash frantically looked for proof to exonerate Sal and overturn the death sentence. Ash visited Larry's Treehouse and snapped a photo of his spirit before running to Nockfell Prison to stop the execution after trying every other option.
Unfortunately, she arrived far too late and was forced to witness the execution of her best friend.
One Final Push[]
She had a plan to free Todd, who was being kept inside the church by The Cult, along with Neil. Unfortunately, Maple and Neil were both apprehended. When Ash attempted to rescue them from the church, she planted explosives along the road with the intention of destroying the cult's temple. When she eventually located them in the prison, Travis showed up, told her to leave, and dragged her from the building.
She gathered the Pyramids of Asintmah and laid them on Sal's tomb, although she had no idea how they functioned. Later, when Sal felt awake, she noticed that one of the pyramids had been turned on. Sal inputted the passwords to unleash the full power of the pyramids as she found the remaining pyramids concealed in parallel universes.
The spell was unsuccessful even with all three pyramids functioning. Ash cut off her left arm as the ritual's last act, sacrificing herself to bring Sal back to life. She was struck by lightning while she was falling. Soon after, she awoke to find that a piece of Sal's soul had been transferred to her arm, giving her the capability to speak with him.
Sal helped Ash open the door to the temple's main room as he travelled to the church, eliminating the Cultists along the way. She discovered that Todd was being presented as a conduit for The Devourer of God as Neil, Maple, and two other individuals were killed. She engaged in combat with the cult members and their leader, Kenneth Phelps. In the conflict, Kenneth tried to overwhelm her with the force of the Void, but his own son stabbed him, and he fell to his death beside him.
Sal and Larry assisted Ash in his battle with The Endless One. The church and temple were obliterated in the subsequent conflict. The four buddies briefly reunited after the Endless One was vanquished before Larry's ghost vanished.
Despite her distress, Ashley, Todd, and the ghost of Sal redoubled their efforts to rid the planet of the Plague of Shadows while never giving up on their search for Larry's Ghost.
Abilities[]
- Energy Manipulation: After being empowered by Sal's ghost, Ashley is able to utilise it, where she used her glowing right hand, known as the Blade of Osiris, to defeat the cultists, as well as defeating the Endless One.
Trivia[]
