Astrid is a supporting character in Season 6 of the Netflix series, The Dragon Prince. She is a Skywing Elf, a member of the Celestial Elves, the sister of Kosmo and an ally of Team Zym.

She is voiced by Boone Williams.

History[]

Background[]

Astrid was born in the Star Scraper to unknown parents with her brother Kosmo and was the only one of the two siblings to be born with wings. Though she was a male, Astrid identified herself as a female. She and her brother never removed their blindfolds due to Esmeray's presence having been causing ice storms for centuries and thus stoppping a clear moonless night from happening.

Book 6: Stars[]

When Callum and Rayla were able to get to the Starscraper, Astrid is among the Celestial Elves who are curious by their presence, as they wonder if they are the Chosen Two who will defeat Esmeray and end the storms that prevent moonless nights. When the Elder decides to have them fall off the Starscraper after seeing they seemingly weren't the Chosen Two, Astrid and her brother Kosmo dive in to save Stella and get Aaravos' pearl.

They then introduce themselves to Callum and Rayla, whom they allow to spend a night in the Starscraper so they can rest before leaving. While guiding them to their hammocks, Astrid and Kosmo explain why they wore their blindfolds, and at that moment, Kosmo notices that Rayla had similar characteristics to the Warrior from the prophecy of the Chosen Two, with Astrid also noticing Callum had the physical attributes of the Mage as well.

Seeing that they could be the Chosen Two, Astrid and Kosmo bring Callum and Rayla to the Elder. There, when the Elder asked them if they planned to end the storms of Esmeray and bring clear moonless nights back to his people, Callum and Rayla instead request for the Novablade so they could have a way to kill Aaravos.

The Elder then reveals that they don't have a novablade, as it was given to a human girl centuries ago, but it wouldn't matter as killing a Startouch Elf is impossible, as destroying their physical plane in the world would just bring them back to the stars and would return after a few years.

This leads to Callum feeling hopeless as they went all the way to the Storm Spire for nothing. Kosmo affirms that they didn't as they are still able to end Esmeray's storms and bring back the skies to the Celestial Elves. Astrid, Kosmo and the Elder then explain that they need to slay "the heart of the beast" in order to do so, and when they do, the Celestial Elves would "adorn them" in return.

Astrid and Kosmo would then bring Callum and Rayla to their rooms so they could rest to fight Esmeray the next day. While Rayla was initially planning on leaving, Callum thought on staying and fullfill the prophecy, convincing Rayla in doing the same. After Rayla was able to calm down Esmeray and thus ending the storm. Astrid and the other Celestial Elves notice that there is now a clear moonless night and no longer the sounds of a storm like they were used to for centuries.

After giving Callum and Rayla the Corona of the Heavens, which had the quasar diamonds needed to get Rayla's parents and Runaan out of their cursed coins, the Celestial Elves go to the top of the Star Scraper and remove their blindfolds. After this, Kosmo becomes timeblinded, being able to see the past, present and future. He compliments Astrid by claiming that her "star" was hidden for a long time, but now shines the brightest in the sky, clearly referring to her gender transition, which Astrid says that her star was always there, even if other people couldn't see it.

After Kosmo compliments Rayla for her kindness and mercy, he notices that Callum had a future filled with darkness, which leads to Kosmo blacking out and falling unconsious. The next day, Callum and Rayla give Aaravos' pearl to the Celestial Elves so they could keep it safe with them. Kosmo notices that the pearl was actually a giant piece of candy, which was made by Barius as a decoy under Callum's suggestion, but decided not to tell them as he saw that if he did it would break Callum's spirit and prevent him from going through a dark magic cleansing ritual.

Kosmo and Astrid later tell Callum to do the dark magic cleansing ritual to stop Aaravos from possessing him again. After guiding them to where the ritual would happen, Astrid brought a Starweaver spider so it would bite Callum and make him sensitive to starlight so he could do the ritual, and then helps guide him to the sky so he could find his one deep truth and fill his dark with light and prevent Aaravos' possessions.

After the ritual was done and Callum's heart was filled with light, Kosmo would tell Astrid that the pearl they have isn't Aaravos' prison and instead a giant piece of candy, which they are unaware of. Astrid asks why he didn't tell them, with Kosmo quoting the words Astrid gave him in an alternate timeline and explained that revealing the truth to Callum and Rayla but instead shifting a burden to them that they shouldn't have to since they need all their stregth at the moment.

Personality[]

Astrid was more forthcoming and straightforward than her brother was and outright cheerful. She enjoys making creepy and sarcastic jokes that more often than not weird out others. She is confident in herself and doesn't need to be told her worth by others. She is also willing to call out others for their mistakes, such as in an alternate timeline where she told her brother he shouldn't have told Callum and Rayla about the true nature of Aaravos' pearl as it ruined all of Callum's confidence, calling him dumb for it as he was shifting a burden to them that they didn't need right now, which were words that Kosmo took at heart.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Skywing Elf physiology/Sky Primal Connection: being a Skywing elf, Astrid was naturally born to the sky arcanum. She was also one of the rarest skywing elves who have wings, unlike her brother

Trivia[]

  • "Astrid" means "divinely beautiful" in Old Norse.
  • Astrid is the second transgender on The Dragon Prince proceeded by Terry, Claudia's boyfriend. Ironically, both of them are elves and Astrid is voiced by a transgender actor.
