Athena is a supporting character in the roguelike video game Hades by Supergiant Games and it's sequel Hades II.

She is the Olympian Goddess of Wisdom and the daughter of Zeus, thus one of Zagreus' paternal cousins, to whom she gives boons in order for him to fight his father, Hades.

Athena returns in Hades II to help her cousin Melinoƫ fight their paternal grandfather Chronos.

She is voiced by Marin Miller in Hades and by Ethel Cutler in Hades II.

Biography[]

Past[]

Athena was the first born and most useful to him, child of Zeus and thus his favorite among his children. As the goddess of wisdom, Athena was mentor to many heroes, among them Odysseus himself. Her knowledge and skill were challenged to none with the exception of the mortal Arachne that beat her in a weaving contest and thus was turned into a spider as Retribution.

Hades I[]

Athena was the first to contact Zagreus (much to her father's dismay) and the first to offer him her boons. After Zagreus reunited with his parents again, Athena and the other Olympians were invited to the Underworld for a truce.

Hades II[]

Athena aids her cousin, Melinoƫ to defeat Chronos. Melinoƫ persuades her to lift Arachne's curse, but she ultimately refuses because Arachne doesn't apologize.

Personality[]

Unlike her wrathful brother, the god of war, Ares, Athena is strategic and wise. She values good counsel above all. She is usually the voice of reason in her chaotic family. But like all gods she has her petty side as she cursed Arachne for simply beating her in a competition and demanded and apology to bring her back.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Immortality: Like all gods, Athena is unable to die.
  • Divine wisdom: As the goddess of wisdom, Athena is wise beyond mortal minds.

Trivia[]

  • In Greek mythology, Athena was born from Zeus' head.
