My father once told me, that just because we're born of darkness... doesn't mean we belong to it. We're always free to choose.
~ Audrey at the end of Bendy and the Dark Revival.

Audrey Drew is the main protagonist of Bendy and the Dark Revival, the second installment of the Bendy franchise. An ink-human hybrid, Audrey is the "daughter" of the late Joey Drew, created using the Ink Machine, with no memory of her life. After being taken into the Cycle by Wilson Arch, her archenemy, she discovers who she truly is and makes it her mission to stop the Ink Demon haunting it.

She was voiced by Erin Lehn.

Personality[]

Audrey is a very driven and passionate person who's determinated to achieve her goals; she's excited about working on bendy cartoons and possess "employee of the month" award in her office. It can be seen from Bendy and the Dark Revival prologue that she has a messy workplace (a couple of empty teacups, books, paper sheets, unopened envelope and other random objects lying around while she works on animation frames) which may hint on her being rather unorganized or being a type of person who is easily distracted.

Second one may lineup with her going on a walk only to get a coffee (if she really did wanted a drink, she has a soda machine close to her office doors); or with her saying that she should try to focus and work if the player will decide not to leave her office for 15 minutes. While at first she's confused when she enters the Cycle (which can be seen in the first half of the game), she shows a courage to navigate whatever awaits her to find a way home.

Audrey gets defensive when she feels overwhelmed: she will either deny what was said or will acknowledge it by being sarcastic. She prefers to keep conversation equal between both sides and when it fails to work, she'll stay silent or express frustration. She's compassionate and wants to see good in people even if it may hurt her in the end, she may give a benefit of the doubt but is still willing to listen. It's shown that she feels a degree of sympathy toward the ink creatures from the cycle, including the ones who initially wanted to kill her.

Audrey is emotional and rarely thinks twice (most of her decisions are impulsive or sometimes irrational) which reflects on the way she talks; usually she comes out as a direct person. While talking she does some sarcastic remarks (toward herself or when speaking to Allison Angel) but she quickly drops the act after the latest one shows no reaction. She is also portrayed as 'playful' or childish to some extent,as can be seen through her interactions with some objects, tasks or characters. Thought, she gets somewhat annoyed when Porter or Heidi act in similar way and claims that it's 'weird'

Audrey possibly tries to suppress her emotions: after being transported to the cycle, finding out the truth about Joey Drew being her father and losing her "human" appearance she sounded like she was ready to cry but doesn't do so. It can be supported by her interaction with Allison Angel that happens after Audrey encounters Ink Widows (spider enemies). She acknowledges that she doesn't know what to do and that she feels lost and scared. After Allison Angel doesn't sound reassuring enough, Audrey's hands can be seen visibly shaking. She takes a moment to calm down and continues to go forward.

Audrey seems to trust Allison Angel enough to be vulnerable around her. Outside of Allison not being hostile, she also was respectful when Audrey has asked not to touch her (it can be speculated that Audrey feels uncomfortable with being touched unless she's the one who initiates contact.)

Biography[]

Audrey is the latest and most successful of Joey's attempts to create a daughter using the Ink Machine, with the previous attempts being failures which he ended up treating as nieces.

Audrey, who grew up with no parents for an unknown reasons (it's unlikely that it's because of Joey's death as he died only two years before the events of the game, during which she's already an adult), later became an animator at Arch Gate Pictures, working under Nathan Arch. One day, after finishing her work, Audrey goes to get coffee where she uses the elevator to go down, but the elevator breaks down and she encounters the studio's janitor, Wilson Arch. He takes her to the basement and has her use six pieces to activate the Ink Machine and take her to the Cycle as an ink creature. There, Audrey sees her changed appearance and has encounters several monsters throughout her adventure, including Allison Angel, who would become her ally.

She would later gain a gent pipe and gain new powers with the help of ink creatures such as Porter as she encounters a perfect recreation of the cartoon devil Bendy, who she accidentally hurts while trying to befriend him. She would later encounter the Ink Demon, who proceeds to chase her through the game. Eventually, she encounters a memory of Joey Drew, who explains how Wilson changed the Cycle.

Later, she'll encounter Bendy again, apologize for hurting him and propose to have "a team up". Audrey will ask Bendy if he knows how to reach The Gent building and toon will expess the fear of this place; Audrey will say that they should go together while taking it slowly and promises that nothing bad will happen to him.

After reaching "the city built on broken dreams" both of them will be stopped right before the Gent building door. While searching for the way to enter, they'll decide to check a Downside Motel. They'll get separated while doing so (to reach Downside Motel's higher floors, Audrey will use her Flow ability and leave Bendy behind without having another choice)

She will eventually meet a memory of Joey Drew again, who will say that she's moving way slower that he expected her to do. They'll have a quick conversation and Joey will offer to show her the truth; after doing so, he'll "teleport" them both into the realm of the original cycle from Bendy and the Ink Machine.

Here he'll explain her origins of being created with using the ink machine and reveals the truth of her being a daughter of Joey Drew, who has dreamed of having a family.

Trivia[]

  • Bendy seem to be Audrey's favourite cartoon character. She calls him "little guy" in prologue, keeps close to her storyboards where he's the main character and has bendy related art deco in her office.
  • She loves chocolate donuts and her favourite drink & breakfast of choice is coffee with toasts.
  • She has some sort of animation award in her office (boris statuette).
  • Audrey's outfit resembles sweater that Jack Wynand ,the protagonist of Bioshock 1, wears. Bioshock is one of main inspiration for Bendy, so it could've been done on purpose.
  • Audrey's human appearance is similar to Bioshock sidekick Elizabeth Comstock

Speculations[]

  • It's unclear how old Audrey is and everything leans toward her being artificially adult:
  • "Fade to black" novel mentions events from December 1953 (BATDR happens in June 1973) and it confirms that Joey didn't worked on "family project" and neither he had it in plans yet.
  • It should be noted that Joey Drew had multiple artificial children prior Audrey that should be included into timespan of 15 years (after December 1953 and before late 1960s)
  • Bendy and the ink machine post credit scene features little girl asking Joey to "tell another story" (her voice file is titled in game files as "AD"). Bendy and the dark revival confirms that it's one of "failed daughters" Joey had; their fate remains unknown.
  • It was left ambiguous if this scene happens in same year as BATIM (1963) or if it's a flashback. In same way, it's ambiguous why previous daughters were deemed to be failures.
  • It's known that all previous children before Audrey has called Joey their "uncle", most likely he forbade calling himself a father (due to claiming that they didn't meet his expectations)
  • Joey makes comment about being proud that Audrey is the one who calls him a father which notes on him being picky enough to choose certain one.
  • Judging on Joey calling all of them "versions that came before her" in note from BATDR and BATIM introducing a girl with AD initials it can be speculated that they all were in fact Audrey in one way or another: either girls with one name or attempts at recreating identical person.
  • The only one known thing is that at least two of them liked cartoons, which is not enough to confirm anything.

Powers and Abilities[]

Over the course of the game, Audrey gains different powers; however, they won't work if signal towers are nearby.

  • Banish - An ability gifted by the Ink itself. Audrey can dissolve enemies by touching them with her left hand if she approaches while crouched and undetected, restoring a portion of her health if done successfully. This ability doesn't work against more powerful foes such as the Keepers.
  • Flow - An ability gifted by Porter for helping him. Audrey can use this power to travel a large distance in an instant, allowing her to cross large gaps and get to out of reach areas. The downside is that she won't be able to reach the area if it is too far or something is blocking the way. This ability can also be used to quickly get by enemies or stay ahead of pursuers.
  • Fast Travel - An ability gifted by Heidi for playing a game with her. Audrey can travel through connected ink pipes that allow her to reach different areas more quickly. She may even find hidden areas.
  • Ink Demon Possession - After fusing with the Ink Demon and gaining control of his body, Audrey is granted the creature's physical powers. However, due to her recklessness to take control, she hasn't reached the power level of the Ink Demon yet, as seen when she can't open reinforced door or run at an immensely-high speed, and the Ink Demon generally can still speak as well as summon enemies.
    • Superhuman Strength - Audrey is very strong, allowing her to smash through large metal doors, instantly defeat enemies, and break stuff around her with ease. However, she can't break through reinforced doors and must rely on her allies' help to open them for her.
    • Invincibility - Audrey's durability allows her to withstand attacks from multiple enemies at once, making it impossible for them to harm or kill her.
    • Infinite Stamina - Audrey can continue moving and fighting without getting tired out.
