Aynsley is a character from the 2016 3D animated Belgian adventure comedy movie, Robinson Crusoe (known in the United States as The Wild Life). He is an elderly Airedale Terrier and Robinson Crusoe's late loyal pet dog who was marooned and shipwrecked on an uncharted island with his master where he eventually befriended at least one of its animal inhabitants, starting with Tuesday.

He was voiced by Doug Stone in the English-dubbed version who also voiced Lawrence in The House of Magic.

Personality[]

Aynsley is a kind, caring, gentle, selfless, brave, and generous old dog with an undying loyalty to his master, Robinson Crusoe. Though getting on with his age, he is still willing to put up a fight against cats like Mal and May who love causing mischief and trouble to others.

Biography[]

Having left England with his master, Robinson Crusoe in order to explore the world and draw maps, Aynsley sets sail on the La Luna. However, during the voyage, Aynsley tends to his ailing master cosntantly suffering from seasickness since the latter's not much of a sailor; much to the amusement of the Captain and the rest of his crew.

One day, both Aynsley and his master catch the ship's vicious ratters: Mal and May on deck, trying to steal and eat the ship's chickens before chasing and throwing them back into the hold where they belong. After Crusoe throws up again at the mere mention of eggs, Aynsley and everyone else find themselves in the middle of a violent storm. Although Aynsley is saved from falling overboard by Crusoe, both fall and end up trapped inside the ship's hold when the ship's mast breaks and blocks the exit along with the ratters who eventually knock Crusoe out with a lamp as payback for their earlier mistreatment while the Captain and his crew abandon ship despite the former two's previous call for help.

The next morning, Aynsley and Crusoe survive, but end up shipwrecked and marooned on a small uncharted island with the ship broken in half, unaware that they are being watched by its animal inhabitants: Mac the scarlet macaw, Kiki the kingfisher, Pango the pangolin, Epi the echidna, Carmello the chameleon, Scrubby the old myopic goat, and Rosie the Malayan tapir mistaking them for "sea monsters". After safely making it to land using a barrel and board as a boat and oar, Aynsley finds himself facing and simply barking at a camouflaged Carmello despite Crusoe calling for the former in order to stay close together until they are suddenly spooked by some noise made by Mac's friends in order to scare them off. Thinking they're being attacked by cannibals (as warned by the sailors earlier), Aynsley and his master try to escape in the barrel after grabbing some provisions for survival, but are then forced to return to the other half of the ship for cover when the current proves to be too strong for them to handle.

At night, Aynsley listens to Crusoe apologizing for their inept escape attempt earlier and vows to get off the island by any means necessary. When Crusoe hears another noise, Crusoe assumes the "cannibals" are back and tries to fend them off with Aynsley and an oar he passes off as a musket, only to discover Scrubby passing by while eating some fruits found on the ground and Mac checking them out from above, thus, making Crusoe finally realize that there aren't any cannibals on the island after all; much to his relief.

The next day, Aynsley sleeps all day while Crusoe begins salvaging and gathering things up on the beach before it is all lost to the sea forever as they are being constantly watched by Mac and his friends including Mal and May who actually managed to survive the storm as well, now plotting to do away with both Crusoe and everyone else as part of their revenge and means to survive at the same time. After Crusoe finds and gathers muskets from the Captain's cabin that may prove useful for survival and practices a bit first before finally succeeding in hitting the mark after countless trials, Aynsley and Crusoe venture out into the open in order to hunt for some food. When they spot Rosie, Crusoe hesitates until finally, having grown some sort of conscience, he simply scares the latter off with his shot since he's never shot anything before in his life, not knowing that he narrowly hit May on the head hiding up a tree with Mal. So, Crusoe decides to try some fishing instead. However, Aynsley returns to save Mac from the ratters trying to attack and eat him just in time and fight them off before Crusoe shows up and manages to drive them away by shooting Mal on the left ear. Aynsley is commended by his master for his actions until the latter figures out the reason behind them before taking Mac back to the ship in order to fix his dislocated right wing from the battle earlier while collecting a ring he found on the parrot as well.

Back on the ship, after Crusoe fixes Mac's wing and renames him "Tuesday" (after the day he and Aynsley have been marooned on the island), Aynsley is left in charge of Tuesday by his master since the latter won't be able to fly right away in a day or two while Crusoe leaves to resume unloading a few more things from the still intact ship. Once alone, Aynsley kindly reassures a panicking Tuesday trying in vain to leave the ship that neither he nor his master will try to make a meal out of him; especially, after how they saved his life earlier and how much Crusoe likes him, other than the fact that the latter won't "make much of a meal" either way unlike the turkeys back in England. Fascinated by the mere mention of England, Aynsley is asked by an intrigued Tuesday to tell him more. When Aynsley reveals that Crusoe wants to explore the world just as much as Tuesday does if they ever get off the island, Tuesday reveals that both Aynsley and his master are actually the first to come from the outside world; much to Aynsley's sarcastic worry.

Later, Tuesday wants to go out and assure his friends that he's alright, but Aynsley suggests that he stays inside since he is apparently in no condition to fly for the next day or two. However, when Tuesday notices his friends attacking Crusoe outside, he tries to go outside so as to stop, but then, he finds himself once again attacked by the cats having deliberately misguided and led his friends into believing that Crusoe had killed and eaten him earlier, thus, giving the ratters an opportunity to sneak onboard the ship and deal with both Tuesday and Aynsley personally. Luckily, Aynsley comes to Tuesday's rescue and fights off Mal while Tuesday avoids and somewhat fights May at the same time. During the battle, however, Aynsley is trapped under heavy wooden debris by the cats, leaving him to howl while Tuesday begins squawking for help when the cats deliberately set the ship on fire using candles from the chandelier in order to finish them off. Despite failed rescue attempts from both parties, Tuesday manages to escape, but Aynsley is killed when the fire reaches the gunpowder and causes the ship to explode whereas Mal and May are left stranded on Curse Island, a small rock located a bit far from the island inhabited by bugs only. Nevertheless, a distraught Crusoe mourns for Aynsley's death whereas Tuesday is temporarily feared dead for good this time by his friends after realizing the evil cats' manipulation and deception.

The next morning, Aynsley is buried by Crusoe before the latter finds new comfort and happiness in Tuesday's company as he continues working. Owing both the late Aynsley and his master, Tuesday stays behind to help his new friend, Crusoe out by any means necessary, which eventually earns him the love and respect of Tuesday's other friends in the end.

Nevertheless, Aynsley's death doesn't go unavenged when Crusoe, Tuesday, and their friends either kill or drive both Mal, May, and their countless number of now-grown children they had given birth to during their time on Curse Island off to sea for good, having made it back to the island using wooden debris from the ship at some point a few months later.
