Azazel, also known as the Curious Angel, is a major supporting character from the 2020 indie game Helltaker.

She is the 6th character encountered by the Helltaker and is an angel sent from Heaven to study demonology.

Biography[]

Sometime either before or during the events of the game up to meeting her, Azazel went to Hell from Heaven with the task to study the demons of Hell. During her time, she runs into the Helltaker and finds out that he is looking for demons, prompting her to join him and his harem.

Azazel stays with the group even when leaving Hell and start living with the Helltaker, completely losing track of how long she'd been with them. During her time spent with the demons, Azazel starts noticing her hair beginning to grey along with horns sprouting from her head. Believing this to be some sort of ailment along with believe that there is no such thing as a Fallen Angel, Azazel prepares to return to Heaven to get examined. However, Lucifer convinces her to stay with the claim that she could take advantage of the change in that she could blend in with demons, which Azazel buys into.

Personality[]

She is portrayed as curious, embodying the "Bright-Eyed Cadet" archetype. She ventures into Hell alone to gather information on demons, often seen jotting down notes. Despite appearing traumatized by her time in the demon harem in the epilogue, she remains determined to document her experiences.

Appearance[]

Azazel stands out among the demons in Hell with her white, almost military-style uniform. It features yellow accents on her collar, sleeves, gloves, and down the front of her shirt. She also wears a necklace beneath her uniform collar, holding a square cross with leaves underneath. In the art book, it's depicted that she pairs this with pants secured by a belt and white boots adorned with straps, each detailed with silver lining.

In the game's DLC, it's revealed that she becomes an evil scientist named Loremaster in the future, and experiments on various demons in an effort to create the perfect demon/human hybrid.
Despite being part of Helltaker's harem, she shows no romantic interest in him. She was later confirmed to be a lesbian by the series' creator.^[1]
