Barius is a supporting protagonist in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. He is the baker of Katolis, who helps his kingdom as much as he can. He also makes jelly tarts, which Ezran loves and is a member of Katolis' High Council as well.
He is voiced by Jason Simpson.
Biography[]
Barius became a loyal friend of King Harrow, giving him and his wife jelly tarts and helping celebrate their birthdays. After Sarai's death, he would honor her by making jelly tarts during her birthday in her memory. He had a pet cat named Biscuits, whom Claudia liked, but she died and there was a small ceremony made for her. Claudia then made her first dark magic spell by creating an illusion of the cat.
Despite his relationship with Harrow and Sarai, he had trouble with their son Ezran, due to him stealing his jelly tarts with the help of his pet companion Bait, but he would secretly give Bait jelly tarts due to Barius admitting that he always liked him.
After King Harrow's death and Ezran became king, Barius put their past actions aside, and he would give him a plate of jelly tarts during his first day as king. Later, Ezran gave Bait to Barius because he wanted to keep him well after he abdicated from his throne and was arrested due to him wanting to protect Katolis.
Barius then helps in rescuing Ezran with the assistance of Soren, Lujanne, Opeli, and Corvus, and hugged him and Bait before he left with Phoe-Phoe to go to the Storm Spire. Barius would later appear during the battle of the Storm Spire, defeating at least three of Viren's soldier with a rolling pin.
After the battle was over, Barius is seen along the other main characters witnessing Zubeia wake up and see that her son Azymondias was alive and that there would finaly be peace among humans, elves, and dragons.
Barius would go to a meeting with council of Katolis, where he would become a member and accept his title as Minister of Crusts and Jellies. In the meeting, Ezran would also say that Zubeia was coming to Katolis, with Barius telling Ezran that he would make a jelly tart big enough for her. Barius would also take part in making a birthday party for Callum and singing a birthday song for him.
The next day, Barius would make a giant jelly tart for Zubeia's appearance in Katolis, which was accidentally destroyed by Callum, although Zubeia still liked it, calling it the best jelly in all of Xadia. Barius would later give Ezran a brown sludge tart, and while Ezran doubted that it would be very good, it ironicaly saved his life from Rex Igneous, who decided not to kill Team Zym because of the tart after Ezran gave it to Rex.
A few weeks later, when Callum and Rayla decided to go to Lux Aurea to find a way to kill Aaravos, Barius went to see them and gave them his new baked treats which he called Doughie-os. A few days later, Team Zym returned to Katolis' castle with the pearl Aaravos was imprisoned in, and Barius went to Callum's office to discuss about what to do with Aaravos' pearl with them and Opeli.
When Opeli suggests summoning the Pentarchy to receive aid from the other kingdoms in protecting the pearl, Barius gives his opinion that they should probably keep the knowledge of Aaravos' pearl hidden from the other kingdoms so its existence could remain a secret and avoid it getting stolen and Aaravos getting freed by someone. The others give other suggestions, with Callum suggesting to destroy the pearl as Aaravos can still manipulate people on the outside like he did with Viren and Callum himself.
However, due to the uncertanty of whether the pearl would end Aaravos and not release him, Ezran decided to keep the pearl hidden and protected in the castle, and closes the meeting. That night, Callum went to Barius and asked him to make a candy version of Aaravos' pearl, which he did.
Callum reveals to Rayla his plan to keep a decoy of the pearl inside Katolis' castle while bringing the real one to the Starscraper, where they could find the Celestial Elves and find a way to destroy it. However, this plan ends up not working as Aaravos ends up posessing Callum in his sleep and makes him switch the decoy with the real pearl, leaving the real one in Katolis.
Barius is later seen with the rest of the council when Soren appears and Ezran reveals to him that Viren was found in the gates of the castle and arrested, and a few days after, having just made a new stach of jelly tarts, and trying to give one to Jellybug so it could taste them, but before he could, he sees Sol Regem going to Katolis' castle, and is left horrified.

Trivia[]
- Barius' name is similar to the name Darius, which means possessing goodness in French, Greek, and Persian.
- According to one of the series' writers, Eugene Ramos, Barius was supposed to have had a niece named Taylor, who had a crush on Callum and would appear in the episode "Rebirthday", having made a birthday cake for him.
