''Sidekick? You think I'm Batman's sidekick? He's my sidekick! I made him!
~ Bat-Mite to Doctor Trauma's prisoners.

Bat-Mite is a supporting character of Batman comics and media. He is a mischievous imp from the 5th dimension with reality bending powers. Bat-Mite idolizes Batman but often ends up causing trouble. He wears an ill-fitting homemade costume to show his devotion to Batman. He considers himself Batman's "Biggest Fan". He uses his powers to bend reality around Batman for his own amusement and to help him fight crime.

His counterpart and rival is Mister Mxyzptlk, another imp who antagonizes Superman, and the two sometimes team up with each other.

Biography[]

Post-Crisis[]

Bat-Mite resides in the peculiar domain of "Mite-World" situated in the 5th Dimension. Within this realm, mischievous imps mimic the guise of earthly heroes and villains while indulging in a ceaseless array of magical games. In this realm, Bat-Mite assumes the role of Batman's most ardent admirer, perpetually attired in an ill-suited Batman ensemble.

When Batman was engaged in a fierce battle against a group of drug-addicted thugs, Bat-Mite made his first initial appearance on Earth. As one of the thugs, Bob Overdog, attempted to escape, Bat-Mite materialized before him with the intention of apprehending the fleeing criminal. Despite having consumed copious amounts of hallucinogenic drugs, Overdog initially dismissed Bat-Mite as a mere figment of his imagination. However, Bat-Mite skillfully employed his abilities to take Overdog on an otherworldly journey through the streets of Gotham City and Mite-World, a psychedelic experience that had a profound impact on him. Along the way, Bat-Mite eliminated a gang of drug dealers who were in pursuit of Overdog, all while covertly aiding Batman in capturing the rest of Overdog's gang. This encounter with Bat-Mite left Overdog filled with remorse for his past transgressions as a drug-addicted thug. Consequently, Overdog found himself facing murder charges for the killings committed by the drug dealer gang, and his tale of enchanted elves donning Batman suits led to his confinement in a specially cushioned cell within the mentally unstable wing of Arkham Asylum.

After escaping from Arkham, Overdog escaped to Metropolis, convinced that Bat-Mite would never be able to track him down there. However, he crossed paths with another imp from the 5th Dimension, Mister Mxyzptlk, whom he mistakenly assumed to be Bat-Mite in disguise. Frantically, Overdog rushed back to Gotham and turned himself in to Arkham Asylum, leaving Mxyzptlk bewildered about the true identity of Bat-Mite. In response to this confusion, Bat-Mite suddenly appeared before Mxyzptlk, leading the two imps to engage in a rivalry to determine who was the superior hero: Batman or Superman. Utilizing their virtually limitless powers, Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk subjected Batman, Superman, Robin (Dick Grayson), and Lois Lane to a series of insane challenges, before eventually being forced back to the confines of the 5th Dimension.

In an attempt to torment Batman, Bane destroyed Arkham Asylum, while in Mite-World, the lethal Bane-Mite disabled Ark-Mite Asylum to trouble Bat-Mite. Empowered by the mystical substance toxic, Bane-Mite confronted a weary Bat-Mite and almost ended the life of Batman's biggest fan. With his last bit of strength, Bat-Mite returned to Earth but failed to capture Batman's attention. Once again, Bat-Mite appeared before Overdog, who had recently escaped from Arkham and had been coerced into consuming large amounts of drugs by a gang in a graveyard. Bat-Mite brought Overdog to Mite-World, provided him with an AzBat-inspired costume, and began training him as his future successor. Adopting the name Overbat, Overdog vanquished Bane-Mite, thwarting his plan to invade Earth with an army of toxic-powered clones. However, Overdog succumbed to the allure of toxic and tragically met his demise. Shortly after the Arkham breakout, Bat-Mite stumbled upon Overdog's lifeless body in the cemetery. The coroner determined that Overdog had died of an overdose.

Sometime later, the Joker cunningly deceived Mister Mxyzptlk and acquired the majority of his powers. Strangely enough, this also led to Bat-Mite becoming trapped within the Joker's mind. After Superman successfully overcame the Joker's god-like abilities, Mxyzptlk reclaimed his stolen power. However, Bat-Mite remained trapped within the Joker's mind. In order to liberate Bat-Mite, Mxyzptlk eventually confronted the Joker in a game of manipulating reality, which caused chaos in the lives of Batman and Superman. During the final phase of the game, Mxyzptlk convinced Bizzaro to release Bat-Mite from the Joker's head, resulting in Joker vomiting out Bat-Mite. Showing gratitude, Bat-Mite utilized his powers to restore reality to its previous state before returning alongside Mxyzptlk to the Fifth Dimension.

Personality[]

Bat-Mite idolizes Batman to the bitter end and considers himself the Dark Knight's biggest fan. Bat-Mite is willing to go to extreme measures to satisfy Batman, even if it entails instigating disorder or turmoil along the way. Although his intentions are pure, his endeavors frequently result in comical mishaps and a lot of frustration for Batman. Although Bat-Mite is a formidable being hailing from a superior realm, his childlike qualities are apparent in both his actions and words. Frequently, he demonstrates an amplified sense of awe, behaving as though everything in existence is fresh and enthralling to his senses.

Bat-Mite is fond of playing practical jokes, taunting, and constructing amusing scenarios, frequently at Batman's cost. He takes pleasure in disregarding rules and causing mischief, solely to add excitement to Batman's existence. He even sometimes teams up with Mister Mxyzptlk to create havoc for both Batman and Superman. Nevertheless, his mischievous acts are never genuinely malevolent; rather, they mirror his mischievous nature and aspiration to amuse. Even though Bat-Mite has affection for Batman, he occasionally finds it challenging to grasp the intricacies of Gotham City and its people. His behavior can be disruptive and disconnected from the gravity of the circumstances. Batman often becomes frustrated as a result of his lack of comprehension, perceiving him as more of an annoyance rather than a useful comrade.

Despite his mischievous character, Bat-Mite truly has a deep concern for Batman and desires to contribute to his triumph. He perceives himself as Batman's loyal ally and is always eager to provide support, regardless of whether Batman truly requires it or not.

Powers and Abilities[]

Bat-Mite has powers similar to Mister Mxyzptlk. The ability to bend reality, as well as possessing near-endless magic powers. Bat-Mite can animate inanimate objects, shrink or enlarge people and objects, levitate objects, and endow them with various abilities. Bat-Mite uses his powers for "heroic" deeds, although his actions often end up making situations worse or creating new problems.
