Bruce Wayne is the superhero vigilante known as Batman and is one of the main protagonists of the Absolute Universe in DC Comics. He is a civil-class engineer who battles crime and corruption throughout Gotham City with a dual identity. Notably, this version of the character utilizes in guerrilla tactics to fight crime, lacking the money or technology that he's often associated with.

Bruce Wayne was an intelligent young man who lived with his working-class parents in a lane known as Crime Alley. His mother Martha was a social worker while his father Thomas was a teacher who taught his class at school. During the fifth grade, Bruce won a student engineering competition by designing a mobile collapsible bridge which could be used in rescue and recovery. His class was awarded with a trip to the Gotham City Zoo where they were caught up in a mass shooting perpetrated by a lone gunman named Joseph Chill. Thomas was able to hide his students inside the bat enclosure and told Bruce to keep the door closed no matter what he heard before sacrificing his own life to protect them. Bruce cried out for his father in tears which caused the zoo's bats to swarm him until he was rescued by officer Jim Gordon.

Bruce was traumatized by what happened and dropped out of school, lashing out at those around him while also developing a criminal record. However, something inspired him to fight back against the injustices of the world and returned to school to achieve good grades, eventually earning himself a football scholarship in the best university of the state. Bruce faked a leg injury to get out of the sport during his first week and applied for a number of subjects that would prepare him for his crusade against crime. After graduating, Bruce got a job as a utilities engineer to familiarize himself with unseen portions of the city's layout, such as tunnels and ventilation systems, before also learning more about Gotham politics and policies as an intern at city hall. He eventually settled on being a civil engineer, an occupation he used to hide caches of equipment across the city and occupy the higher floors of skyscrapers left unfinished so investors could profit off the subventions. The skyscrapers and many more hidden stash houses would serve as bases for Bruce called Caves as he began his crime fighting campaign as the masked vigilante Batman.

Interestingly, the Bruce of this universe is childhood friends with most of his rogues gallery.
This is one of the very few incarnations of Batman who still has a living parent. In this case it is his mother, Martha.
Like his Frank Miller and DCEU incarnations, he is prone to using vulgar language.
While he has the no-killing rule that is common in Batman comics, he shows a willingness to severely injure and even maim enemies to gruesome extents, such as dismembering the hand of one of the Party Animals.
This version of Bruce Wayne is 24 years old and a police file states he was born in 2004, implying the year that the Absolute Batman comics take place is in 2028.
