Bruce Wayne is the masked superhero vigilante Batman who battles against outer-dimensional creatures called Shadows in the limited comic series Immortal Legend Batman.
Overview[]
At the beginning of the 22nd century, humanity achieved vast interstellar travel by using dark matter to warp space-time around their vessels and explore the far reaches of the galaxy. However, this achievement came at a price, as humanity's first experiment with dark matter tore a hole through realities, allowing dangerous, bloodthirsty creatures called Shadows to emerge and terrorize their world. People were at a loss on how to combat these mindless but savage invaders when a trio of superheroes appeared and utilised cosmic energies to fight back against the Shadows. These heroes, known as Batman, Robin and Nightwing, each use their own styles and techniques to harness a certain form of energy in combat. Batman uses the dark, frightening energy closest to the Shadows' home dimension. Robin draws on the more positive, familiar energy nearest to their own dimension. Nightwing uses both of these energies in order to fight against their otherworldly adversaries. Together, the heroes have protected humanity from the threat of the Shadows, allowing their race to flourish across the universe. As years went on, people came to believe that these powerful protectors were actually immortal. However, each hero's mantle and skills were given from one generation to another. Currently, Tim Drake and Dick Grayson received the mantles of Robin and Nightwing respectively, while billionaire Bruce Wayne earned the right to don the mantle of Batman after the Shadows murdered his parents.
Biography[]
After failing to save a child's parents from the Shadows, Bruce used his cosmic powers to perform a forbidden ritual that separated himself from his flawed aspects in an attempt to end the war with the Shadows once and for all. However, once separated, these flaws manifested as six intelligent Shadows, each resembling Bruce Wayne, who began murdering unsuspecting people across the galaxy. Upon learning of this, Bruce embarked on a mission as Batman to eliminate each Shadow impersonating him, even though destroying every one of these fragments of himself could lead to his own demise. Bruce’s mentor and former Batman, Roger Elliot, also found out about Bruce’s actions. Fearing that Bruce’s demise would jeopardise the legend of the immortal Batman, he sent his son, Thomas Elliot, to seize the mantle by any means necessary.
