Bear is an anthropomorphic bear and Franklin's best friend. He is the deuteragonist of the series, Franklin and its spin-off, Franklin and Friends. He is voiced by Cody Jones (1997–1998), Luca Perlman (1998-2002), Marc McMulkin (2003-2004) and Mark Ramsay (2011–2013).
Appearance[]
Bear first appears as a bear with brown fur, rounded figure, black nose, light brown muzzle and despite not having claws he has toe nails. From Season 3 forward, his fur gets dark brown, he gets a bit slim and starts wearing a blue vest (which he has never been shown taking off or putting on).
Personality[]
Bear is mainly known to be gluttonous but he is shown to have a big heart as he cares very deeply about his friends. He has proven to be loyal, selfless, kind, reasonable, mature, wise and responsible. His friends also see him as very brave.

Season 1[]
In "Franklin Plays the Game", Bear appears as captain of the opponent football team who always wins. After his team's victory, he cheered up Franklin by telling him that having fun is more important than winning. Later Bear sees Franklin's team training in a rainy day while he's out to pick berries. The next match, Bear's team plays against Franklin's team and they won but the only difference being that Franklin's team finally scores a goal.
In "Franklin Wants a Pet", Bear hears about Franklin's opportunity for getting a pet and suggests a bird due to the birds' beautiful singing but Franklin points out that birds will wake him up too early. Later he is seen waiting at the pets store with Beaver, Goose, Otter and Snail to see what his new pet will be and they meet Franklin's pet fish, Goldie.
In "Hurry Up, Franklin", Bear appears in his house ready to celebrate his birthday and gets surprised to see all of his friends in time throwing a party and getting his baseball hat and more gift from Franklin.
In "Franklin's Bad Day", Bear comes to Franklin's house as he invites him to play outside. They meet at Otter's old house and discuss her moving. After this he tries to cheer up Franklin by getting him an icicle and letting him ride on his sled but it doesn't work as Franklin gets more upset and cranky. Later he joins Franklin during his puzzle sending and jokes about his day being not so bad as the two friends continue having fun.
In "Franklin Goes to School"...
In "Franklin Is Lost", Bear is playing hide and seek with his friends until he gets found. He goes back home with the rest of his friends thinking that Franklin and Fox are okay.
In "Franklin Has a Sleepover", Bear gets invited to Franklin's sleepover and brings his Rabbit plushie. He arrives at Franklin's house and they have fun playing trains, camping and even playing shadows but when they go to sleep, Bear has trouble sleeping because he misses his home. Franklin tries to make him feel like home but it isn't enough but he gets assured that his parents are being there for him and that he will get home tomorrow.
In "Franklin's Halloween", Bear hanging out with his friends at school as he sneezed, he revealed that his favorite thing from Halloween are the candy (due to his gluttony), his friends discuss how Bear is the bravest because he was the one to enter The Haunted House. During the class, everyone guesses that Bear will dress as a ghost on Halloween and later Bear encourages Franklin by telling him that he also gets scared but it's only scary until you get to know it and decides to go into The Haunted House first. He is absent during the celebration as Mr. Owl who is dressed as a ghost is mistaken for him and later is revealed to have a cold. In the end, he is seen getting candy from friends at his house before sneezing once again.
In "Franklin Rides a Bike", Bear was having trouble hitting the baseball despite being skilled at the other sports as he kept trying. After Beaver learned how to ride a bike without training wheels, Bear also learned with the rest of Franklin's friends and after this he learned how to hit the ball.

In "Franklin is Bossy", Bear loses the game of "Franklin Says" first due to Goose tickling him, after that he gets annoyed by the heat, Franklin's choice of game and change of rules, so he and the rest of Franklin's friends make up excuses so they can go the lake for a swim. On the next day, Bear and the others agree to play baseball with Franklin only to notice that Franklin is being bossy again and watches Beaver snapping and complaining (in the books Bear is the one who complains), and also agrees that Franklin is being bossy. In the end Franklin apologizes to his friends and promises to not boss around.
In "Franklin's Fort"...
In "Finders Keepers for Franklin", Bear found out about the camera Franklin found and told him that its original owner must be concerned about it. Later he would play with his friends until the rain and after Franklin lost Sam, Bear tried to call Franklin but he foolishly ignored his calls until the next morning where he came Franklin's door to reveal that he is the one who has Sam and tell the story of how he noticed and picked him up. After this, he joins Franklin in trying to find the owner of the camera until they find out that it belongs to Racoon.

In "Franklin and the Secret Club", Bear and his friends see Porcupine's new ball and decide to play with it as Bear kicks first (despite Porcupine stating that she will go first) and sees Franklin and Snail's marble game which he and the others decide to join making Porcupine jealous. Later Bear gets recruited into Porcupine's secret club. After asking Porcupine about Franklin and Snail joining the secret club but gets upset as he tells Franklin that the members of The Secret Club are not allowed to hang out with Franklin, Bear decides to leave The Secret Club but Franklin refuses to let him make a sacrifice so instead they agree to have secret meetings on Saturday. Later Bear and the rest of Franklin's friends learn about Franklin and Snail's club named N.S.S.C.A.S. and leave Porcupine's secret club due to being sick of her rules.
In "Franklin and the Red Scooter"...
In "Franklin and the Tooth Fairy", Bear's tooth falls off due to eating an apple and explains to Franklin about baby teeth. At the bus, Bear and his friends tell Franklin about The Tooth Fairy (as he doesn't know about her due to turtles not having teeth). The next day he shows his gift from The Tooth Fairy which is a book and learns from Mr. Owl that loosing a tooth is a sign of growing up and afterwards learns why Franklin doesn't know about The Tooth Fairy. In the end Bear sees that Franklin has the same book and he is eating an apple again.
In "Franklin Takes the Blame"...
In "Franklin's Christmas Gift", Bear appears as he starts a short snowball fight with Franklin until they get in the school bus. Bear reveals that he wants a full hockey gear set for Christmas. After this he listens to Mr. Owl and Porcupine's Christmas Toy Charity. Later he sees Franklin again as he pranks him by pretending to be a talking pine tree and helps Franklin with getting pine cones. After this at school, Bear gives his old sled for the charity as he thinks it's too small which surprises Franklin. In the end, Bear along with the other students are surprised that instead of his old broken truck toy, Franklin gives away his whole marble collection.
In "Franklin and the Baby", Bear brags about the perks of being a big brother to Franklin and Snail as he is going to be one soon. After school, Bear learns that he will be having a sleepover at Franklin's house meaning that the baby is going to born soon. Later at night, Bear and Franklin are playing a game based on Bear being a big brother until they hear Franklin's parents coming, so they pretend to be asleep but they wake up when they hear that Bear's newborn sibling is a girl, Bear feels happy about it but everything changes on the next day. As Franklin visits Bear, Bear accidentally awakens his baby sister causing him to go outside as he tells Franklin that he's been having nothing but trouble ever since she was born. Franklin wanted to see Bear's baby sister and Bear allows him on the condition that they don't wake her up but it fails as Franklin accidentally wakes her up causing her to cry. Bear tries to get out with Franklin but they get caught by Bear's parents, Bear feels bad but his mother motivates him to do better and later he shows progress as he is able to calm his sister down. In the end, Bear helps Franklin hold the baby and feels glad that she likes his best friend.

In "Franklin's Not-So-Broken Bone", Bear was observing Skunk's casted arm and after working on a volcano he decided to help Franklin get his own cast by making a fake one from paper mache as he pretends to be a doctor like his mother. After this he tries to help Franklin feel better after struggling to do lots of things. After Franklin had enough of his fake cast, Bear comes offering him to come to the lake and remove the cast but that doesn't happen. In the end, Bear visits Franklin and Skunk who are happily playing together.
