Beerus (in Japanese: ビルス, Birusu), also known as God of Destruction Beerus, is a major character in the Dragon Ball franchise.
A powerful, confident and downright obsessive hothead, he is the God of Destruction within the Seventh Universe. As such, his occupation is to maintain balance by destroying planets so that new life can grow. He is also the brother and eternal rival of Universe 6's God of Destruction, Champa.
He was voiced by Kōichi Yamadera in the Japanese version, and by Jason Douglas in the English dubbed version who also voiced Kuzan in One Piece.
Biography[]
Beerus is an entity that has been around even before the Cretaceous period, which he alluded to when he mentioned killing off the dinosaurs. Since dinosaurs exist in the present-day Dragon Ball world, it's hinted that he's not as thorough in his destruction as other villains. Beerus was the one who convinced Frieza to wipe out the Saiyan race, as he found them to be uncultured barbarians that the universe would be better off without. Just about every otherworldly entity is scared of Beerus due to his temper and power, though since he lets so many of them live in peace, he's clearly got a sense of mercy underneath his fearsome exterior.
Despite his reputation as the God of Destruction and his overwhelming power, Beerus is actually quite charming and laid back. When he invades Earth, he joins in Bulma's birthday party and manages to win over everyone. He's even compassionate enough to spare the Earth if Oolong can beat him at rock-paper-scissors. Like Goku, Vegeta and Buu, Beerus loves food and will sample anything he can, losing his temper when Buu eats all the pudding before he can try some.
When Beerus decides to destroy the Earth, Goku manages to turn into a Super Saiyan God and fights Beerus. Beerus is still stronger than Goku when using his 70% power, but Goku refuses to stop if it means losing his home world. Eventually, Beerus decides to spare the Earth, his only reason being that he didn't have the motivation to follow through on his threat but was revealed because of the tasty food on Earth in the extend version.
He has sibling rivalry with his twin brother, Champa. They compete to food contest. Beerus mocked Champa of the universe 6's earth was destroyed, leaving Champa not having any cooking for him. Despite his rivalry, Beerus does care for his brother as he wished for the Universe 6's earth to be restored and wished him back with the Super Dragon Balls after the Tournament of Power.
After Zamasu's demise, Gowasu apologies to Beerus for all the troubles that his former student caused him. Beerus forgives Gowasu but recommend him to choose his apprentice more carefully for now on, which Gowasu agreed.
Powers & Skills[]
Of all Universe 7, Beerus is the most powerful god, feared by all Kaios and mortal knowing of his existence. The only being known in his universe to surpass him in terms of power and combat skill is his Angel Whis.
It is well known that he can destroy planets without real effort or even at 100% of his power, having already destroyed a planet in half with just the tap of his finger. According to Whis, Beerus would be able to destroy an entire solar system.
In fights, Beerus never fights seriously from the start but is already a formidable opponent with just a low level of power, easily defeating Goku Super Saiyan 3 with two hits, resisting a Vegeta Super Saiyan 2 enraged without too much damage and defeating Z fighters relatively easily. Using over half of his full power, Beerus defeated Goku in Super Saiyan God and was considered stronger than Super Saiyan Blue, he is even shown in the manga that he could beat Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta in seconds if he fought seriously. The only mortal surpassing Beerus is Jiren. Goku in his mastered form of Ultra Instinct is also beyond Beerus' power but he cannot access that form on purpose.
He can also erase people from existence using Hakai, which not even ghosts are safe from.

- Beerus' name come from "Beer".
- Goku theorizes that Broly may be stronger than Beerus but since he's never seen him use his full power, nothing is really sure.
- According to Whis, women like Bulma and Cheelai are the type of women Beerus likes. Beerus notably frozen in place upon seeing Cheelai's face and called her cute.
