Belle the Tinkerer is a supporting character in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing. She is a free-willed and kind-hearted Badnik based on a female anthropomorphic animal from Sonic's world. Unlike normal Badniks, she is made almost entirely of wood.
Overview[]
Belle is a wooden marionette-like robot resembling a female anthropomorphic animal. Sonic and Tails meet her in one of Eggman's abandoned bases, citing her goal is to find her "father". After the "Chao Races and Badnik Bases" arc, Tails invites her to stay with him at his workshop.

Belle was created by Dr. Eggman's friendly alter-ego Mr. Tinker to help him repair anything broken during his time at Windmill Village. Belle happily assisted the handyman with his duties before he suddenly vanished from the village and Dr. Eggman returned to unleash the Metal Virus upon the world. As the virus spread, Belle remained unaffected as she was already a robot, and stayed in Windmill Village until the epidemic was ended by Sonic the Hedgehog and his allies. Unfortunately, the villagers blamed Belle for their misfortune as they came to believe she was an Eggman spy, causing the wooden robot to leave her home in search of Dr. Eggman so she could try and convince him to be Mr. Tinker again.

- Belle was first revealed at the online New York Comic Con IDW Sonic Panel on 9 October 2020.
- Belle was originally designed to resemble a mouse but this was changed to make her look more unique.
- The slits in the corners of Belle's mouth which make her look more puppet-like were added at SEGA's request to further emphasise that she is a robot.
