History[]
Season one[]
When Benjamin Franklin first visited Paris, the French gave him a lantern and told him they used it to keep evil spirits at bay.
Season two[]
Ichabod Crane served as Franklin's assistant for many of his experiments. He constantly wanted Ichabod to become fluent in his alphabet; a code that Franklin himself created, and finally succeeded in the second-third season and also Abbie. Crane was with Franklin during his famous experiment on electricity with the kite and key to him. In reality, Franklin wanted to destroy a key that can be used to open Purgatory. Unfortunately, that didn't work, so Franklin was forced to hide the key in Sleepy Hollow. At some point in his life, he taught Crane his he form of the alphabet which was part of the code to find the key.
