Ben the 1980-Something Space Guy, more commonly known as Benny, is a major character in The Lego Movie franchise.
He was voiced by Charlie Day, who also played Charlie Kelly in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Dale Arbus in Horrible Bosses.
Appearance[]
Benny wears a cracked, bright blue space helmet. Benny's head is yellow, with black pupil-less eyes and a huge, open mouthed smile. He has a red tongue that is visible. Benny's torso is completely bright blue with the faded, classic space logo. He wears a bright blue jet pack as well. Benny's legs are completely bright blue. The cracked helmet may be because many of the classic spacemen's helmets got cracked in that place however, the logos didn't fade that much.

The LEGO Movie[]
Benny appears during a meeting at Cloud Cuckoo Land as Benny is only Master Builder in the crowd who was inspired by Emmet's speech that didn't go well with the others & later decided to help the main cast escape Lord Business' forces who attacked Cloud Cuckoo Land, finding it by having tracked the others by secretly implanting a tracking device on Emmet, Benny tries to help by building a spaceship, which he is very excited for but the idea is turned down by Wyldstyle as she tells him the skies are surrounded. During Emmet's plan, he is tasked to disable the shields that protect the Kragle, with MetalBeard, his partner, on guard duty for anyone who attempts to go in the computer room. However, they get discovered & he gets placed in a Think Tank like everyone else but Emmet, who plunges into the Abyss of Nothingness to save everyone.
The rest of the crew (sans Vitruvius, who was killed earlier) break into a taping of Where are My Pants? to make an announcement to all of Bricksburg. Right after, they are caught by Skeletrons until a redeemed Bad Cop saves them. When trying to find a way to enter Bricksburg, seeing his surroundings, he suggests building a spaceship, & this time, everyone agrees. So he gets to building the spaceship, & everyone gets on board as he flies it crashing into the city, where the Master Builders & Bricksburgers have created defense mechanisms against the Micro-Managers.
However, The Man Upstairs starts gluing the mechs that were revealed to be his son Finn's creations back to their original forms, including Benny's spaceship. He later appears at the ending where the DUPLO aliens announce their plot of destroying Bricksburg.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part[]
5 years after the DUPLO attack, Benny was seen with Metalbeard working on his motocycle when Emmet passed by. Benny accidentally caused a fire which they manage to put out. When Sweet Mayhem got into the cave, Benny got into an argument with the others over being the leader. Benny attempted to fight off Sweet Mayhem but he was captured along with Unikitty, Metalbeard, Batman, and Wyldstyle.
While flying Benny excitedly presses all the buttons on Mayhem's Spacecraft which also powers it down. Benny were in Mayhem's Spacecraft and were brought to the Systar system. They meet Queen Watevra Wa'nabi. While in the "not Evil" song, after Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi says some things she would do for Unikitty and Metalbeard, Benny wants to have Wa'nabi to do something for him. Queen Wa'nabi asks her what's the most spaceship that she can imagine, which Benny reponds saying that is his thing. Queen Watevra says "times that by infinity!", Bennyy gets excited. When Wyldstyle's hair was revealed to be light blue with Pink "highlights", she says it looks cute.
When the wedding is starting, Unikitty, Benny and Metalbeard tried to stop Emmet from ruining the wedding, which they failed at - Miserably. This causes "Our-Mom-Armageddon" to happen. Shown in Rex Dangervest's backstory, a Unikitty Lego figure is seen being played by ianca, along with Batman, General Mayhem, Benny and Wyldstyle.
Everyone (except Emmet and Rex Dangervest) were put in a Lego bin. Later, they worked together to save Emmet from Rex Dangervest.
After Rex vanishes out of existence, Wa'Nabi and Batman finally wed, represented by Finn and Bianca reconciling with each other and agreeing to play together again. Their mother returns their toys, averting Armamageddon. The LEGO universe is transformed into a mishmash of Apocalypseburg and the Systar System called "Systocalypstar" which is peaceful. Benny and Mayhem sharing their helmets and sightseeing the beautiful sunset with Emmet and others.
Personality[]
As a result, Benny holds an all-too-happy attitude and short-term attention span to everything but those involving spaceships. However, when times call for extended travel between worlds, his vast knowledge turns invaluable to those whom need it—and an undamaged spacesuit, too.
