Biography[]

Beppe Di Marco first came to Albert Square in Waford, a fictional borough East London, from late January 1998 for the funeral of his late father Giuseppe. Shortly afterwards he moved into the square with the rest of his family, consisting of his brother Gianni; sisters Teresa and Nicky respectively; and their mother Rosa. While the rest of his family have moved into Walford to open an Italian restaurant in Giuseppe's honour, Beppe has already built himself a successful career as a highly decorated policeman who has recently progressed through the ranks to the Vice squad.

As he and his family settle themselves in the square, Beppe crosses paths with the square's local hardman Grant Mitchell and the two become sworn enemies with each other. Their rivalry connects to the fact that Grant and his brother Phil have occasionally dabbled on the wrong side of the law, up to the point where they became known as the "Mitchell Brothers" - whom Beppe instantly saw as troublemakers from the point he first encountered the duo. Soon enough, Beppe's feud with Grant escalates when the former meets the latter's wife Tiffany and learns about the couple's volatile marriage due to Grant's abrasive nature.

It was then Beppe began harbouring romantic feelings for Tiffany and urges her to leave Grant. At first she refuses due to her unconditional love for Grant, but then Tiffany learns about Grant's affair with her mother Louisie Raymond a couple of months later. Thereupon she plans to leave Grant and take their daughter Courtney with her in leaving the country with Beppe to start a new life away from the square. Just as Tiffany prepares to leave after packing her bags, however, she ends up falling down the stairs in The Queen Victoria public house and everyone is led to believe that Grant pushed her. When Beppe finds out what happened to Tiffany, he confronts Grant and vows to have him arrested for attempted murder. Beppe soon becomes determined to get Grant jailed and he pressurizes Tiffany to pretend that Grant had deliberately pushed her in order to keep him locked up, but her conscience gets the better of her and she later writes a letter exonerating Grant of any wrongdoing. She also instructs her best friend, Bianca Jackson, to give it to the police after she leaves. Not long afterwards, however, Tiffany is killed in a car accident whilst trying to reclaim Courtney from Grant after he had been released on bail from that point; the couple's argument led to Tiffany being killed when she runs into a road and Grant's stepfather, Frank Butcher, accidentally knocks her down in that moment.

As Tiffany was about to elope with Beppe, he never forgives Grant for what happened and burns the letter that exonerates him. However, his police superiors soon discover what Beppe had done and he is consequently sacked from the force for withholding evidence and misconduct. When Grant finds out about the letter, he confronts Beppe at his house and punches him in retaliation. The two later compete for the affections of barmaid Nina Harris. At first she chooses Grant over Beppe, but then the pair learn of her past as a prostitute and Grant breaks up with her before proceeding to discredit her in the pub. Beppe comes to Nina's defense and reminds Grant about the fact that he is responsible for Tiffany's death in the first place. That is when the two men fight and Grant punches Beppe before the pair are ordered to leave by Grant's mother Peggy Mitchell shortly afterwards.

Sometime later, Beppe antagonizes Grant even further by dating his younger sister Sam and then warning him to back off by threatening to expose his one-night stand with Phil's wife Kathy Beale behind his back. Later on Sam visits Beppe for his help when her cousin Billy informs her that Phil and Grant are planning to do a criminal job. Beppe responds by summoning the police to intercept Phil and Grant, before he joins Sam in pursuing them towards the River Thames - where her brothers have ended up plunging their getaway car into the water. When arriving at the scene of that moment, Beppe and Sam are stunned to find that only Phil is present and alive whereas Grant is nowhere to be found. Grant is presumed dead, but Beppe discovers that he is actually alive and tracks him down at the airport. There, he sports Grant leaving the country with Courtney and calls out his name - which prompts Grant to turn and face Beppe. As they stare at each other, Grant silently bids Beppe farewell by giving him a sarcastic wave as the departure doors close; Beppe just smiles back in response.

Afterwards, Beppe finds a new job working as a taxi driver for car salesman Roy Evans. It is then Beppe starts a friendship with his business partner Steve Owen when the pair work together at the latter's nightclub called the E20. As such Beppe gets into conflict with his ex-wife Sandra over the custody for their son Joe, especially when he discovers her romance with his old acquaintance Jack Robbins. During that time, Beppe forms a crush on cafe worker Lynne Slater and is unhappy when her fiance Garry Hobbs cheats on her. Beppe attempts to win over Lynne, but she chooses Garry over him in the end. Beppe eventually leaves the square in June 2002.
