Mike sold the home to Ray Langton and Bet agreed to vacate the premises for the sake of Ray's daughter Tracy. Despite Mike's poor treatment of her Bet became friends with him later on and she tried to convince his ex Maggie Redman to let him see his son Mark.

Bet found out it was Jack's fault but forgave him as she asked him to do it in the fist place.
Bet later married Alec Gilroy as part of a business arrangement for them to run the rovers together. Despite the origin of their relationship they had some affection between them and Alec comforted her when she had a miscarriage. Bet helped Alec reconnect with his estranged family and became close with his grandchild Vicky. When Ken tried to kill himself after his wife Deirdre left him for an affair Bet saved him just as Eddie had done for her years prior.
Alec got offered a job in Southampton which caused the relationship to end when Bet didn't want to go with him. Alec briefly returned to help Bet try to protect Vicky from her boyfriend Steve McDonald who was after her money but Bet refused to get back with him.
Soon enough, Bet needed money to buy the pub again and visited her neighbour Rita Fairclough to propose a business partnership; they were closest friends for over a decade in the 1980s and at one point Bet supported Rita after the latter's ordeal with her villainous ex-fiance Alan Bradley back in 1989. However, their friendship ended when Rita refused to lend her financial support and Bet walked out on her. It was then Bet decided to leave the street.
In 2002, several years later, Bet returned as she had a court case about a boyfriend stealing money from her. Audrey Roberts and Mike Baldwin went with her to the court to support her but she lost the case. Bet then left only to then meet future landlady Liz McDonald in Brighton in 2003 where she helped her stop her criminal husband Jim from being captured by the authorities.
