"Be a giver, not a taker." "Help each other up, don't hold each other down." You're the one who's always teaching me that stuff! And you know what? I'm proud to be the person I've become.
~ Biddy talking to her father.
I'm not afraid to die for what I know is right! But living in a world where we're not allowed to criticize what's wrong? Now that scares me!
~ Biddy's phylosophy.

Bridget "Biddy" Squire is the overarching protagonist of the Red Circus Arc of the Spy × Family series. She's the daughter of Billy Squire and a member of the Red Circus whose death at the hands of the State Security Service eventually led to her father's descent into becoming a terrorist.

Appearance[]

Biddy was a young girl with shoulder-length hair and messy bangs. She also had freckles across her nose and cheek, and her eyes were narrowed and drooped slightly, with visibly long lower eyelashes and short thin eyebrows above.

Personality[]

Thanks to Billy's raising of her, Biddy was a very kind-hearted person with noble goals to help those who needed it most, even if it would cost Biddy her life. She did get a little rough when people tried to stop her from going to claim her rights, like when she got mad at her dad for trying to stop her from going to a Red Circus student demonstration. Biddy was a selfless girl and willing to do anything so that she and others could live a happy and fearless life.

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is known about Biddy's past, but it's stated that she and her father both lived in poverty for most of their life in a post-war Ostania. It's shown in a picture that Biddy had a mother who possibly died before the events depicted in the flashback. Despite the adversities, Biddy had a good relationship with her father, Billy, who taught her to always seek generosity and compassion above everything else.

Teens[]

During her late teens, Biddy joined the, at the time, left-leaning student activist organization known as Red Circus in order to fight the injustices of their country's oppressive government. Fearing for her safety, Billy utterly disapproved at her involvement with the group's activities as the SSS had recently been cracking down protests of the opposition. Biddy, however, remained firm in her decision, stating that she wasn't afraid to die for her cause and that she didn't want to live in a world where people weren't allowed to criticize the government.

Biddy would eventually die during a violent riot, after being beaten to death by the Secret Police. Her body would later be identified by her father in the morgue. After her death, Billy entered the government's blacklist due to his relation to her, leading to him fleeing the country with the help of the Red Circus.

Spy × Family[]

Motivated by Biddy's death, Billy joined the Red Circus and became one of its main figureheads. Affected by his late daughter's sacrifice, Billy became increasingly more radicalized as the Red Circus started devolving into a fully-fledged terrorist organization.

During the Eden College schoolbus hijacking, Billy first mentions his daughter in a conversation with Henry Henderson, who tried to reason with him, claiming that the children on the bus wanted to see their parents too. Billy dismissed his words by disclosing to him that his daughter had been murdered by the state, saying he would not take criticism from a member of the establishment.

When Anya Forger stands up to Billy in order to stall the police and prevent Vadim from detonating the bus in desperation, Billy is taken aback by her determination and bravery, which remind him of his daughter. This causes Billy to go through a brief morality crisis, where he tries to let Anya free from the bus, to which she refuses to do so. Now reminding himself of the lessons he had taught his daughter, Billy realizes the error of his ways and decides to surrender himself to the authorities in order to keep Biddy's legacy alive.

Trivia[]

  • In the original japanese version of Chapter 74, her full name is revealed to be "Bridget", as Vadim calls her by that name when arguing with Billy, meaning "Biddy" is likely just an affectionate nickname her father gave her. This is completely omitted in the english version of the chapter.
