~ Commander Cupcake's heroic speech
Sprinkles, jails aren't only made of concrete and steel. They're in our minds, too. Look around you. We're all in jails of some kind, imprisoned by the stories we tell ourselves: I'm not good enough, I'm not smart, I've made too many mistakes. But Sprinkles, freedom is in our minds, too.

Past[]

As revealed in the thirteenth book, Dog Man: Big Jim Begins, Big Jim, at the time called Little Jim, lived a good and loving life with his parents when he was just a toddler.

However one day, everything changed. On this day, a pierce of light hit their bungalow house, filling it with a strange radiance. Little Jim's father went to see what it was, and found that an UFO had parked just on top of their house.

At this same time, a young Grampa was walking and saw the UFO park on top of Little Jim and his parents' house. There, a door opened, revealing an alien which looked like an eye with crazy red hair. The alien revealed himself and gave the young Grampa a note and a ring, believing that he would give them to a young Nurse Lady. However, the young Grampa had crumpled up the note and tossed it away...

...landing on Little Jim's father's head. Due to what the note said, Little Jim's father and mother believed that their child would be The Chosen One. As the note stated, there should have been a ring accompanied with the note, though after a long search, Little Jim's parents could not find said ring, since the young Grampa used it to propose to Petey the Cat's future mother, Grace.

After a long time searching, Little Jim found out that he would have to help with the search, yet he knew that it would be hard on his own, so he hired the members of the Junior Detective Club, Clarence Bailey and Greg the Puppy. Together, they went into a "helicopter" searching for clues and questioning suspects, such as a young Dippy.

After questioning Dippy, Greg caught a scent and ran off to where he thought it was, as everyone followed him. They were led to a donut shop and started eating donuts they believed were free. However, the owner of the shop and her baby came out and yelled at them that they didn't pay. As Clarence, Dippy, and Greg ran for their lives, Little Jim was caught and brought to city hall by the owner of the shop. There, Little Jim was arrested.

Baby Jail was a tough place for Little Jim, with such bullies as Dr. Scum pushing and shoving him throughout each day. However, three cats, Tiny Tippy, Wittle Whiskers, and Baby Fluffy stopped each bully, and Little Jim quickly became friends with them.

After Little Jim's parents visited, it was revealed that Little Jim never actually went to Baby Jail and it was just a game they were playing. However, at that moment, Little Jim's mother gave him her glasses, letting him see better.

One night after being "sent to prison", Little Jim and his parents were driving. However, an unknown car slammed into their car, causing a chaotic car crash. Little Jim was the only survivor.

After hearing the news, Little Jim was heartbroken, but he was cheered up by Mrs. Pierce, a woman that led the Happy Home Shelter in Bedford Falls.

During his time in Happy Home Shelter, he would meet Petey the Cat and his mother, Grace. After telling them the news, they quickly (Petey reluctantly) accepted Little Jim, including his "uniqueness".

During his adult years, Little Jim, now known as Big Jim, would actually get arrested for an unknown reason. He would continue to serve his time to this day.

Dog Man[]

In the first book, Big Jim serves as a minor character.

Book Em' Dog Man[]

When Petey wants to figure out why Dog Man is so smart, he asks Big Jim to seesaw with him at the jailyard, where his momentum sends Petey flying out of the gates of Cat Jail.

Weenie Wars: The Franks Awaken[]

He was one of the first of the prisoners that got their mail.

Dog Man: A Tale of Two Kitties[]

In the third book, A Tale of Two Kitties, Big Jim serves as a minor character.

It was his birthday, and the warden had allowed him to bring balloons to everyone at the jailyard.

When Big Jim tries to give Petey a balloon, he pops it, making Big Jim cry. Then, Petey gets an idea and asks Big Jim if he can have the balloons, and he even says he has a "gift" in the litter box, and he can hold onto the balloons while Big Jim gets them.

As Petey starts floating away from the balloons, Big Jim finds that the only gift he got was cat poop.

Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild[]

In the sixth book, Brawl of the Wild, Big Jim serves as a minor character.

When Petey is trying to be good, Big Jim asks Petey what he's doing. Petey explains he's trying to be good, and that he's been good for sixteen minutes.

Big Jim hugs Petey for it, but Petey takes Big Jim off of him and yells at him to get of the "merchandise".

Then, Big Jim annoys Petey by talking about his dream of eating a big marshmellow, and then realizing he ate his own pillow.

Then, Big Jim sneezes on Petey, who has had enough and yells at Big Jim to leave, with Big Jim crying out on the way saying he thought Petey was trying to be nice. Petey says there's a difference between being good and being nice, and then he realizes that there isn't, causing him to give up trying to be good.
