Bill Hollister is a supporting character of Stingers. Hollister was the Head of Homicide, who often worked alongside the Undercover unit to track down criminals that may be involved in the homicides that he investigates. He later becomes romantically involved with the Undercover unit's leader, Ellen "Mac" MacKenzie.

He served as a supporting character from season one to season four.

He was portrayed by Nicholas Bell.

Notable Storylines[]

Midway through season three, Hollister and Mac become closer with one another after Mac protects him during an investigation against an illegal brothel where Angie Piper's uncle was killed at the hands of the prostitute whom Hollister was seeing. However, this incident also results in Hollister getting demoted down to Detective Senior Sergeant and removed as Head of Homicide by Internal Affairs investigator Andrew Bligh, although Hollister still remains in the Homicide unit. Hollister later helps out Mac in the season three finale, when she and Angie are under investigation by Bligh over the apparent suicide of Angie’s informant Tran Nhieu. Hollister, despite interference from Bligh, is able to find evidence that proves that Tran was in fact murdered, and after Angie discovers that Tran’s friend Lee-Van Chu was the murderer, Hollister arrests him and kills his Triad boss after they both incriminate themselves on wiretap, ultimately clearing Mac and Angie of any wrongdoing, while also giving Hollister an opportunity to humiliate Bligh into apologizing to Mac. Afterwards, Hollister asks Mac on a date, which she politely declines at first, but she later changes her mind, beginning a romantic relationship between the two, despite Hollister being a married man.

In season four, Hollister and Mac continue their romance, despite trying to keep it a secret from their respective units. Mac’s unit later find out about her and Hollister, but they express their approval about their relationship. Hollister is also later promoted back to Detective Inspector and again becomes the head of the Homicide unit. Hollister later crosses paths with Bligh once again, after Oscar Stone shoots and kills Robert ‘Chicken’ Lake, seemingly to protect Peter Church, although Church himself thinks that he wasn’t in any danger, prompting Bligh to tell Hollister to treat Lake’s death as a murder investigation, prompting Hollister to warn Mac of the situation, while later reassuring her not to blame herself regarding Stone’s actions. Hollister is later forced to publicly admit that he and Mac are romantically involved during the colonial inquest into Lake’s death, after it’s revealed that Bligh had them under surveillance in an attempt to discredit Hollister, Mac and the Undercover unit as a whole, but Hollister defends both himself and Mac, telling Bligh that their private life is none of his business, and that they don’t care what Bligh thinks. Hollister and Mac ultimately get the upper hand as Stone is cleared of any wrongdoing in Lake’s death in the inquest after Church finally defends Stone’s actions.

Hollister and Mac then decide to prepare for the following day, as they plan to go on a holiday together to Bali, which Hollister had already booked during the inquest, and they both jokingly agree that Bligh has done them a favour, as they no longer have to keep their romance a secret anymore. The next day, Hollister calls Mac to let her know that he can’t pick her up as his informant wants to talk to him, but he reassures her that he’ll meet her at the airport. Hollister then enters his car, which doesn’t start when starting the ignition, he tries the ignition again, causing the car to explode, killing him instantly. Mac later finds out about Hollister’s death when Church meets her at the airport, leaving Mac devastated.

Mac later discovers that the explosion that killed Hollister was a result of a bomb planted in his car, prompting Mac to promise to find and arrest Hollister’s murderer. Eventually, after several setbacks, she discovers that Hollister’s old colleague, Frank Landis, was the one who planned Hollister’s murder to stop him from uncovering Landis’ involvement in the death of Jonah Day, and she ultimately arrests him for Hollister’s murder with the help of her unit.
