Birdo, know also Birdetta or Birdie, is a major character in Nintendo's Super Mario franchise.
She is a prehistoric dinosaur, identified in some early sources as a bird, with a funnel-shaped mouth from which she can spit eggs. Initially, she was an enemy in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros 2 but appeared redeemed in later video games. She is also the best friend and love interest of Yoshi.
A prehistoric creature fought several times by Mario and friends. Birdo (known as Catherine in Japan) is almost never seen without a distinctive pink ribbon, and has the power to spit projectile eggs out of her mouth. The original instruction booklet from the 80's notes that Birdo is male but believes to be female, though later game localizations tend to go back-and-forth. Nowadays Birdo occasionally shows up in the Mario Kart and Mario sports games, where she's usually paired off with Yoshi.

Super Mario Bros 2[]
Birdo serves as a member of Wart's 8-Bit Club and is considered more of a species than a singular character in this game. Different variations of Birdo are fought as bosses in a few levels.
Wario Woods[]
Birdo assists Toad in stopping Wario and his monsters from invading Peaceful Woods.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga[]
When the witch Cackletta attempts to steal Princess Peach's voice, Birdo takes her place to fool the villains. However, her role in protecting the princess is not revealed to the Mario Bros. until later because of Bowser's intentions to kidnap Peach after the ploy. Birdo also plays an adversarial role as Popple's new rookie.
Mario Kart[]
She first appeared in the Mario Kart games in Double Dash as a partner to Yoshi.
Personality[]
Birdo has a high opinion of love and romance, hence her flirtatious nature and drive to find someone who reciprocates her feelings. She's always caught in a whirlwind romance, often affectionate with others, even when she does not know them very well.
