~ Bizarro. |
Bizarro emerged as among the batch of incomplete Superman clones crafted by Lex Luthor, initially intended to counter the Man of Steel. But when the Crime Syndicate infiltrated Earth and Luthor shifted his stance, all the Superman replicas were marked for obliteration. In a stroke of fortune, Roman Sionis, known as the Black Mask, intervened to rescue this particular Bizarro from imminent destruction.
Eventually, Bizarro rebelled against Sionis and, aided by Red Hood and Artemis, overcame him. Following this clash, Bizarro united with Red Hood and Artemis, forming the fresh iteration of the Outlaws.
Bizarro was created by Otto Binder and George Papp, making his first appearance in Superboy #68 (October 1958).
Biography[]
Origin[]
In the pre-Crisis continuity, the original Bizarro emerged as an imperfect duplicate of Superboy, inadvertently created by Professor Dalton's duplicating ray. Misunderstood as "Bizarro" due to a communication mishap, this strange version displayed pale skin, childlike behavior, and developed an attachment to a blind girl named Melissa, becoming an outcast in Smallville. Superboy was compelled to destroy him using the remains of the duplicating machine, granting Melissa sight through Bizarro's remnants.
Later, Lex Luthor attempted to recreate Superman using an enhanced version of the duplicating machine, resulting in another iteration of Bizarro. This version, too, exhibited pale skin and childlike tendencies, falling in love with an imperfect duplicate of Lois Lane and together creating their own Bizarro World.
Through various retcons, the origin of Bizarro often revolves around his creation by Lex Luthor, particularly after the removal of the original Superboy storyline from continuity.
Silver Age[]
During the Silver Age, Bizarro debuted as a product of a duplicating ray aimed at Superboy. Initially resembling Frankenstein's Monster, this version met its demise at the end of its first appearance. Later, a revived version emerged through the duplicating ray, now attributed to creation by Lex Luthor. This rendition persisted until the advent of the Modern Age.
Modern Age[]
After the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new Bizarro emerged, an imperfect clone of Superman devised by Lex Luthor. This version met destruction upon its introduction. Another flawed clone briefly surfaced, meeting demise at Lexcorp's hands. Subsequently, the current iteration of the character was introduced.
DC Rebirth[]
In recent Red Hood and the Outlaws storylines, a new iteration of Bizarro emerges. Initially meant for destruction, he's rescued by Black Mask, leading Red Hood (Jason) to join forces with him and Artemis. As they thwart Black Mask's plans, they confront a power struggle in Gotham. Bizarro's uncontrolled actions against criminals raise concerns for Jason, especially when facing Killer Croc, leading to a violent incident. Artemis reveals Bizarro's multiple clones and their danger, prompting Jason's doubts about trusting him.
Faced with the dilemma of Bizarro's potential danger, Jason seeks guidance at the Batcave, contemplating using Kryptonite to eliminate Bizarro. However, during a heartfelt moment by the lake, as Bizarro expresses gratitude and willingness to improve, Jason refrains from using the Kryptonite, though conflicted.
Later, Bizarro's deteriorating health becomes apparent, requiring rest. Despite this, when facing Solomon Grundy, Bizarro pushes himself to the limit, ultimately being weakened. Lex Luthor intervenes, taking Bizarro to LexCorp Tower for treatment, raising doubts for Jason regarding Lex's intentions.
Lex claims to have restored Bizarro's health using an unknown substance, hinting at Bizarro's newfound intelligence. Jason remains skeptical, questioning Lex's motives despite Artemis' reassurances about Lex's expertise in understanding Bizarro's needs. The storyline leaves Bizarro's future state and capabilities uncertain, introducing the possibility of a smarter and transformed Bizarro.
