Black Rock Shooter is the incarnation of the Black Rock Shooter character in Black★Rock Shooter 2012 anime. She is the other self of Mato Kuroi, also the main protagonist from the anime alongside Mato Kuroi.
She is voiced by Kana Hanazawa in Japanese and Xanthe Huynh in English
Appearance[]
Black Rock Shooter is a pale-skinned girl who has blue eyes with a white circular pattern and white pupil in her iris like all the otherselves and long dark blue hair tied into spiky asymmetrical high twintails (the right being shorter than the left). the tone of her skin cames to an alice blue color.
She wears a hooded navy blue trench coat adorned with single white stripes down the sleeves and a white zipper, a small white litle star in the front in the left of the trench, and a larger star on the back between the back and the thigh. She also wears navy blue knee-high boots with black soles and white borders and stripes and white zippers. The tails of her trench coat are attached by three white zippers, two horizontal around the waistline and one vertical down the lower half of her trench coat. Her open trench coat reveals a navy blue bikini top and a pair of navy blue hot pants with two belts, one black and other white with navy blue stripes in a cross-shape.
Personality[]
BRS's behavior is partly a reflection of Mato's behavior, from his disinterest, his concern for others, but it is also often ambiguous. She attacks anyone who bothers her and usually kills any Other-Self she confronts in cold blood. Despite the last mentioned, she shares the same concern and love for his original as all the other Other-Selves. Despite not being visibly intelligent, she timed it to avoid Chariot and her vehicle Mary while holding on to a fabric and also when one of Dead Master's undead crushed her, she holds on to his hammer, stabbing Black Blade into it.
Biography[]
Is unknown the origin of the other-selves but to the beginning of the series, Strength encountered Black Rock Shooter and the two of them fought purely on instinct. While they were fighting, Strength was pushed back and fell off a cliff behind her. She nearly died from the fall, but then she heard Yuu Koutari's voice, allowing her to feel emotions for the first time and sense how much Yuu was truly suffering. Knowing that she could take Yuu's pain with her if she were to die, Strength planned to let Black Rock Shooter kill her so Yuu could forget her pain. Strength found Black Rock Shooter mercilessly slaughtering other selves, but she did not go through with her plan and left without being noticed.
Synopsis[]
Black Rock Shooter first appears at the beginning of the 1st episode where she lays atop a ledge in a field of spikes of the Hollow World. and rises from the peak where she is, being disturbed by Black Gold Saw who initially watchs her and summons a bigger King Saw against her. her reaction is counterattack with a shoot of her Rock Cannon against one of Black Gold Saw's Eyes. In the next scenario, she is seen sitting at the bottom of a deep pothole, being watched by Black Gold Saw. Still, in response to that, she decides to get up from where she is and apparently goes to look for Black Gold Saw. Later, while walking in a direction, she encounters a green aura (which was possibly from Dead Master) which upon reaching a certain point illuminates the area and Black Rock Shooter ends up in Chariot's world for unexplained reasons. From there, she decides to explore the place, but is attacked without warning by Chariot, who grinds her with the wheel of his vehicle, Mary. After breaking free of the wheel, she moves to evade it, but Chariot surprises her by pulling spikes out of the wheel. ends up being crushed. After breaking out of the spikes, being knocked to the ground, Chariot tortures her with her prosthetic wheel, before she gets up, then throws macarons in her face, mocking her, and Black Rock Shooter watchs her with a disgusted face. Afterwards, Black Rock Shooter and Chariot engage in combat, and Black Rock Shooter counterattacks with shots from her Rock Cannon, knocking down Chariot's Mary, and jumping on her to attack, but is interrupted by Dead Master, who ties her with chains to a wall. about to be drilled by Chariot, she sees Black Gold Saw's eye watching her.
In the 2nd episode, she is seen being chased by Chariot and one of the projectiles from her vehicle almost hits her, however, Black Rock Shooter clings to a cloth and avoids the vehicle that was approaching her, she tries to attack Chariot but is interrupted again by Dead Master. Later, she is seen tied by Dead Master's chains and being squeezed by them, until she ends up turning by them and frees herself from Dead Master, pushing her away with a strong kick, there she observes that Dead Master has a heart carved into his chest, and then follows her, trying to help her. Upon arriving at a mansion that looks abandoned, she finds Dead Master, then tries to take her away but Chariot intervenes and takes her away from Dead Master. However, the latter wakes up, giving Black Rock Shooter a chance to attack Chariot while Dead Master destroys her world. Later, when Black Gold Saw alters Chariot's dimension before it is destroyed, Black Rock Shooter stands guard in front of King Saw, as a sign of caution, although that does not prevent him from sensing Chariot and beheads her in response.
In Episode 3, she breaks into the Black Gold Saw's world and attacks the other hooded figures, leaving only one who is assumed to be Arata Kohata's Other Self, and shakes her hand, only to end up stabbing her.
Later, in episode 4, she enters Dead Master's world, being greeted with several pillars and chains emerging from the ground. Upon seeing Dead Master, she decides to confront him and when the latter begins, Black Rock Shooter decides to respond with a shot.
In episode 5, she is seen shooting several of Dead Master's undead, then being hit by the giant hammer of a huge undead, but surviving it and holding on to it with the Black Blade to shoot it, destroying it, and then Target the next undead while continuing to kill more Dead Master undead with hand-to-hand combat. Then when Dead Master directs his skulls at him, Black Rock Shooter dodges them and moves away from them, and when they join the fallen undead in the form of a 2-headed giant, Black Rock Shooter shoots them, but the shots do not hit him. they effect the undead giant. And although they attack her, she survives. In episode 7 she manages to turn the situation around in an unknown way, giving Strength difficulties, but at one point, Mato wakes up and interrupts Insane Black Rock Shooter, deflecting Cannon Lance and immobilizing her, but when Strength hits her, she responds by shooting her own leg, damaging Mato at the same time, but even so, she is still interrupted by the connection with Mato, which immobilizes her again, but temporarily, because as soon as Mato apparently thinks about his family and friends, Insane Black Rock Shooter regains control of herself. then agrees to shoot. and at one point, the original Black Rock Shooter appears in a short time, apparently in Mato's mind, without any explanation. In episode 8 she continues to be tortured by Yuu in Strength's body until Strength with Yuu's appearance decides to sacrifice herself, giving Insane Black Rock Shooter the advantage to finish off Yuu in Strength's body, however she is interrupted. by Mato, who somehow generates a light that teleports them all to the Black Rock Shooter dimension, and Mato becomes the latter mentioned. After that, Insane Black Rock Shooter easily dominates Mato in combat until the other Other-Selves resurface for unknown reasons, giving Mato power, a power with which he defeats Insane Black Rock Shooter.
After seemingly being destroyed without a trace, Black Rock Shooter reappears in her original form in the fussioned Hollow World for unknown reasons and disappears before Mato's sight. At the end of the series, Strength (who also resurfaces for unknown reasons) sees her as she remains true to her goal of continuing to fight.

- Her appearance in Nendoroid Generation is inspired in this version of her.
- When Black Rock Shooter kills Dead Master, a red flame emerges from his left eye alongside his blue flame. Some watchers believed this was caused by Black Gold Saw.
- It is not explained or alluded to in any way why the Other-Selves revive at the end, especially Black Rock Shooter, who was destroyed seemingly without a trace.
