Black Iron Tarkus, also referred to as Iron Tarkus, is a character of the video game Dark Souls. He appears in the game as a white phantom that can be summoned to aid in the fight against the Iron Golem.
Biography[]
Little is known about Tarkus' past, though he was most likely a knight of Berenike, famous for his incredibly powerful brawn that impressed even his knightly companions. Thanks to it, he managed to survive the longest of all the knights who wanted to cure the undead plague and fulfill the prophecy related to the First Flame. Tarkus even managed to defeat the Iron Golem, after which he left a white summon mark behind him so that others who had come as far as he did would be aided by his phantom. According to a Crestfallen Merchant in Sen's Fortress, Tarkus failed in Anor Londo, where he most likely died from a fall from a great height, as evidenced by the corpse with his armor found there.
Tarkus himself does not appear, but he can be summoned as a white phantom in Sen's Fortress to help us fight the Iron Golem guarding the road to Anor Londo. His summon sign is in a small tower to the right of the mist leading to the Iron Golem arena. His help will be extremely useful, as Tarkus has a huge amount of health and deals no less damage with his sword. In fact, with minimal help from the player, Tarkus is able to kill the boss himself, even in New Game Plus.
Trivia[]
- Black Iron Tarkus is likely a reference to the antagonist knight Tarkus from the 1987 manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure who himself is named after the 1971 progressive rock album by Emerson, Lake, & Palmer. Both characters are massive knights with enormous, seemingly unwieldy weapons and thick armor. The way Black Iron Tarkus dies is also similar to how Tarkus from the manga falls off a cliff and into a barrack, though the latter survives the fall.
