Professor Dane Whitman is a supporting character in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals. He is a teacher and historian, Sersi's boyfriend, and the holder of the Ebony Blade, a magical weapon that belongs to the line of knights he comes from. Though he became estranged from his uncle, he is encouraged to look more into his family by Sersi, leading him to claim the Ebony Blade when Sersi was taken by Arishem the Judge.
He is portrayed by Kit Harington, who also voiced Eret in the How to Train your Dragon franchise, and played Jon Snow from Game of Thrones.

Dane is very accepting, as he was not worried that much when he discovered Sersi was an Eternal, and was still in love with her. He also appears to be caring, as shown with Sersi and Spite, and kind, shouting to the people near to him to run, during Kro's attack in London. He still has issues with his family for unknown causes though, probably due to his legacy.

Background[]
Dane Whitman always had problems with his family, and one day, he and his uncle Nathan Garret, became estranged to each other, and Dane went living in London as a history teacher. At an unknown point in the time, he met the Eternal Sersi, befriended her, and eventually falls in love with her. In 2018, he survived Thanos's snap, and, in 2023, he witnessed everyone who died, coming back.
Eternals[]
At this point, his relationship with Sersi was almost developing into something greater until they are attacked by a monstrous Deviant, named Kro, who almost kills Whitman, Sersi and Sprite, but is stopped and scared away by Ikaris, who Whitman deduces to be Sersi's former lover she constantly mentions. Dane stays in London, whiled Ikaris, Sprite and Sersi go look for the other Eternals.
At the end of the movie, Dane is talking with Sersi about the happenings of her mission, how they stopped a Celestial to being born, Ikaris betrayal and remorseful suicide, to the point where Sersi says that they promised each other they'd have no more secrets between them, asking him, to tell the truth about his family, which he'd tell, if he wasn't stopped by Arishem, the Judge, who abducted Sersi along with some other Eternals, and Dane watched horrified Sersi being taken off Earth. He then goes to the History Museum, where he prepares to claim the Ebony Blade, probably in an attempt to save Sersi, but is interrupted by a voice that asks if he really thinks he's ready for it.

- In the comics, Dane Whitman is the latest descendant in a long line of warriors possessing the mystical Ebony Blade and title of Black Knight. Whitman rode multiple winged horses and was the first owner of Aragorn, whom he gifted to Valkyrie.
