| “ | I heard T'Challa say: "Wakanda Forever.", quietly, like... he knew it was the last time. T'Challa saved the universe, every single one of us. | „ |
| ~ Spider-Man narrating how the late T'Challa saved the universe from zombified Thanos' destruction by sacrificing himself. |
King T'Challa known also as the Black Panther is the deuteragonist of the fifth episode of Marvel Animation's What If...? TV Series, What If...Zombies!? and the posthumous overarching protagonist of it's 2025 spin-off Marvel Zombies. He is the King of Wakanda and a member of the Avengers, who joined them in an attempt to fight back against the Zombie Plague before being subdued, though T'Challa survived and was kept captive by Vision before being saved by Bucky Barnes. He then teamed up with Spider-Man and Ant-Man to take on Thanos and stop him from wreaking more havoc.
Like his Earth-616 counterpart and Star-Lord counterpart, he was voiced by the late Chadwick Boseman.
Biography[]
What If...? (2021)[]
T'Challa likely followed the same path as his original counterpart right up to 2018 before the Infinity War, when the Zombie Apocalypse began as a result of Hank Pym bringing back his infected wife Janet from the Quantum Realm. The infection spread quite quickly and soon enough, T'Challa and the other Avengers regrouped to handle it, though before they could do much of anything, the heroes were overwhelmed and infected, though T'Challa survived and was carried away by Vision. In spite of this, Black Panther was kept prisoner by the Android to use as live bait for the zombified Wanda Maximoff who could not be cured like Scott Lang due to her power's connection to the Mind Stone.
Marvel Zombies (2025)[]
In a flashback, T'Challa, Lang and Spider-Man are seen taking the Mind Stone to Wakanda to stop the Quantum Virus, but by doing so, they find Birnin Zana overrun by zombies, including the infected Thanos. Despite the trio's best efforts, Thanos gets the Mind Stone and completes the Infinity Gauntlet. T'Challa, as stated by Spider-Man, said "Wakanda Forever" quietly, knowing it was the last time. So, he decides to sacrifice himself by getting both him and Thanos to the reactor, killing them both.
Trivia[]
- T'Challa's likeness is based of Chadwick Boseman who finished recording his voicelines for What If..? months before his death. In honor to the late Boseman, T'Challa's only appearance in the spin-off Marvel Zombies was in a flashback narrated by Spider-Man.
