Althena, better known as Blind Al, is a supporting character in 20th Century Fox's X-Men film series and a minor character in the 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine.

She is Wade Wilson's friend and roommate of Wade Wilson who goes by the nickname Blind Al.

She is portrayed by Leslie Uggams.

Biography[]

One day at a laundromat, Al encountered Wade Wilson, who was busy scrubbing bloodstains from his clothes. Eventually, Wade moved into Al's home while hunting Ajax, the man responsible for his disfigurement. After narrowly escaping Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Wade returned to Al’s house to recuperate, while the elderly woman struggled to assemble a cabinet—only for it to collapse, prompting her to grumble about buying furniture from Craigslist.

Later, as Wade expressed his fear of revealing himself to his lover, Vanessa Carlysle, Al reassured him, reminding him that appearance was only one part of love. When Vanessa was later kidnapped by Ajax, Wade, determined to save her, returned to Al’s house to gather every firearm he had stored there. He even had to persuade Al to hand over a pistol hidden in her sock. Before leaving, he cheekily told her, “There’s a stash of cocaine next to the cure for blindness.”

Following Vanessa’s death, Deadpool broke into Al’s house to retrieve the hidden cocaine, which—true to his words—was indeed next to the so-called cure for blindness. Al expressed her condolences, and after taking a massive hit, Deadpool set off to make amends.

Later, after an unsuccessful attempt to rescue Russell Collins from a prison convoy, Deadpool returned to Al’s place to recover, having been torn in half by Juggernaut and needing time to regrow his lower body. While there, he received a visit from Cable, who proposed they team up to stop Juggernaut.

In 2024, Blind Al attended Wade Wilson's surprise birthday party at their apartment, joining the rest of his friends to welcome him home with a surprise. As the guests mingled, Wilson sat down with Al, who wasted no time asking when he planned to pay the rent. When Wilson jokingly suggested he might accidentally kill her, she dryly replied that she hoped he’d die in a fire. She then invited him to do cocaine with her, but he declined, reminding her that it wasn’t allowed. The evening continued with everyone gathering to listen as Wilson gave a heartfelt speech about how grateful he was to have them in his life.

A few days later, Al overheard a loud commotion outside and moved to the window, listening as Deadpool and Wolverine engaged in a brutal fight against the entire Deadpool Corps. Annoyed by the chaos, she muttered that she wished she had lost her hearing instead. When Deadpool later returned to the apartment, he introduced her to Wolverine and Dogpool. At his urging, Al reached out to pat Dogpool, only to recoil in horror after accidentally touching his tongue. Later, Wilson’s friends reunited once again at the apartment for dinner, bringing another round of unpredictable antics.
