The Blue Mermaids is a maritime peacekeeping organisation that appears in the High School Fleet series.
Founded by Mayuki Munetani's grandmother at an unknown time, the organisation has been one of the most well-known in the world, with its members dedicating their lives to protect the maritime country of Japan and every sea lanes from around the globe, including maritime piracy.

History[]
During the Russo-Japanese war a century ago, methane hydrate mining underwater was commonplace around Japan, in order to suit the country's energy needs.
Excessive mining, on the other hand, caused much of Japan's landmass to sink over time, including most, if not all, of real-life Tokyo. As a result, the Japanese began to build floating towns in place of the land-based ones. Boats and skippers replaced cars as the preferred mode of transportation for maritime civilians.
The emergence of maritime towns brought with it the necessity to defend them, as well as the crucial sea passages that supplied them.
Women began to man vessels to protect towns and maritime passages without giving the appearance that they were at war. Principal Mayuki Munetani's grandmother was a founding member of the Blue Mermaids, and the Munetani Family has a long history of women participating in the force.
Mayuki herself served with the Blue Mermaids and made a name and history for herself 15 years before the events of the series. She managed to thwart an attack by an armoured fleet rampaging through territorial seas while commanding the cruiser Kurushima, making her the only Blue Mermaid in history to do so.
The Blue Mermaids have built a reputation as a peacekeeping force since its inception. As a result, young girls like Akeno Misaki (whose inspiration comes after her family's demise in a cruise trip) and Moeka China are inspired to follow in their footsteps and help defend the waters. Maritime high schools around the country train students aboard antique battleships to prepare them for such tasks. If anything, the Blue Mermaids have had an impact on local culture.
Description[]
The Blue Mermaids' hierarchy is shrouded in mystery. Many members, on the other hand, work with marine authorities like the Maritime Safety Support Department, which runs Mashimo's department known as the Safety Oversight Office.
The Blue Mermaids have numerous sections, including the Rapid Response Security Force, which was intended to respond as quickly as possible to events like the sinking of the Shinbashi.
In terms of assets, the Blue Mermaids are claimed to have at least five fleets, one of which has at least four ships.
The Blue Mermaids can conduct security operations in the waterways of neighbouring maritime countries since they are a multinational organisation. For example, much of the Blue Mermaids' power was deployed in the Philippines in preparation of encountering the infected Musashi, during the infamous RATt Virus outbreak.
