My name is Blue, everyone! I'll skip my introduction, because... I'm just here to challenge some people to a duel!
~ Blue Sapphire challenges someone to a duel during her introduction.

Blue Sapphire (블루 사파이어, 藍貝兒) is one of the seven main protagonists of the Rainbow Bubblegem series, being one of the seven Mermaid Princesses like the other six, specifically hailing from the Jellyfish Kingdom. As with the other six Mermaid Princesses, Sapphire, working in tandem with her jellyfish-like fairy companion Jellyfin, works to stop Black Diamond and her Blob monsters.

Blue Sapphire is voiced in the Korean dub by Jeon Hae-Ri, with her Chinese and Indonesian voices being provided by Tina Chan and Hanimah, respectively.

Description[]

Physical Appearance[]

Blue Sapphire is a tan-skinned girl with blue eyes that display raindrops in them and long blue hair in a bubble ponytail and a golden circlet with a blue raindrop-shaped gem around her head. As with the other Mermaid Princesses, she has three forms that she can shift between:

  • As a mermaid, Sapphire has a blue tail with fins resembling tear drops, and she wears a blue tiara and a blue top with yellow straps.
  • Sapphire's human disguise wears a cyan sweatshirt or jacket with a blue drop on it, dark blue sports trousers, and white shoes with blue accents.
  • Sapphire's powered-up Magical Girl form, called "Sapphire Blue," gives her rainbows in her eyes and pink and cyan highlights in her hair. Her outfit in this form is different from the other Mermaid Princesses, with her wearing a blue jumpsuit with white stripes and a rainbow raindrop; however, she retains her fellow Mermaid Princesses' Magical Girl gloves and boots; the former are dark blue fingerless gloves which are hidden beneath her Sapphire Gauntlets' boxing gloves and the latter are blue with rainbow outlines.

Personality[]

Being the group's resident tomboy who has a reputation for being the strongest mermaid princess of the sea, Blue Sapphire is a brave girl, though she can also get overly excited. She is very competitive, to the point where she can get obsessed with winning, although that does not stop her from competing fairly, and she values her friendship with her friends. She loves playing sports, being the queen of them.

Powers and Abilities[]

The Sapphire Gauntlets are Sapphire's main weapon, their default appearance being twin bracers however, she can form them into boxing gloves to strengthen her punches. Although she tends to engage in melee combat, where she excels due to being super fast (which she uses to advance on enemies quickly) and strong, Sapphire is capable of lobbing fireballs by punching in the desired direction.

Quotes[]

Purple! Let's go play soccer! We're short three players!
~ Blue Sapphire invites Purple Star to play soccer during the events of "The Suspicious Art Room," not realising she's talking to an impostor.
Why aren't you answering me, Purple?
~ Blue Sapphire's bewilderment as to why "Star" is not answering her in "The Suspicious Art Room"
Purple's just messing around again!
~ Blue Sapphire mistakes Purple Star's attempts to stop Ms. Annie's instruments from being abducted for messing around before she tries to stop Star in "Sing My Dreams."
So long!
~ Blue Sapphire's taunt as she throws the Mantis Shrimp Beullobeu over the horizon.

Trivia[]

  • Sapphire bears a resemblance to Princess Jasmine from Disney's version of Aladdin due to her hair.
  • Sapphire does not immediately revert back to her mermaid form upon ditching her waistbag following her first loss to Purple Star in The Brave and Invincible Blue Sapphire. Yellow Gold is also presented with this peculiarity in her debut story arc.
    • This could mean that the two can hold their human forms for longer.
  • The fireball attack that Sapphire can do is similar to an attack that Akaza from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba can perform.
  • When she defeats the Mantis Shrimp Beullobeu in The Brave and Invincible Blue Sapphire, Sapphire throws him over the horizon not unlike how Mario defeats Bowser under the effects of the Super Star in Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach. She also taunts him while doing so in the English dub, not unlike when Mario throws Bowser in Super Mario 64.
