Boodle (ブードル, Būdoru?) is a minor character in the manga and anime series One Piece. He is the mayor of Orange Town and an ally of the Straw Hat Pirates during the Orange Town Arc.
He is voiced by Jōji Yanami in Japanese, Joseph Murray in the Odex dub, Michael Sinterniklaas in the 4Kids dub dub and Mark Stoddard in the Funimation dub. In the live-action he is portrayed by Lindsay Reardon.
Biography[]
Boodle was one of many refugees from a town destroyed by pirates. He proposed founding a new settlement on the Organ Islands, which became Orange Town after forty years of leadership and hard work. During that time, he formed a unique friendship with a pet-food shop owner named Hocker. After Hocker’s death, his dog Chouchou stood guard outside the shop, and Boodle took it upon himself to care for him.
Three months later, Orange Town was invaded by Buggy the Clown and his crew. The townspeople fled, but Chouchou stayed behind to protect the shop. Boodle regularly snuck back into town to feed him. During one visit, he found Monkey D. Luffy trapped in a cage, alongside Roronoa Zoro and Nami. Initially suspicious, Boodle quickly grasped the situation and helped Zoro recover.
When Mohji, Buggy’s first mate, and his lion Richie attacked, Chouchou tried to fight but was overpowered. Luffy broke free and defeated both enemies. Boodle then saw that Hocker’s shop had been burned down, triggering Nami’s fury. After witnessing Luffy’s resolve to avenge Chouchou, Boodle was deeply moved and ashamed of his own inaction.
Determined, he declared Orange Town his treasure and vowed to defend it himself. However, Buggy easily overpowered him. Luffy saved Boodle but, recognizing he would only get in the way, knocked him unconscious to protect him.
After the Straw Hats defeated Buggy’s crew—Cabaji (who had lost to Zoro), Mohji, and others—the townspeople returned. Mistaking the Straw Hats for new invaders, they chased them off until Boodle woke up, realized the truth, and ran to the harbor to thank Luffy and his crew for saving the town. Following Buggy’s defeat, Boodle and the townspeople drove out the remaining pirates. Two years later, Orange Town had recovered, and Boodle and Chouchou hosted the grand opening of a new pet-food shop named after Chouchou. During the celebration, Boodle listened to Vegapunk’s broadcast about the founding of the World Government, while chatting with Chouchou and a young girl.
