Bookman is a supporting protagonist in the anime/manga series D.Gray Man. He is is the head of the Bookman clan, an organization dedicated to recording and maintaining the true history of the world, and an Exorcist and member of the European Branch of the Black Order, though this affiliation only exists so he and his apprentice, Lavi, can carry out their duties. Like Lavi, Bookman's real name is unknown. His Innocence is known as the Heavenly Compass, and utilizes needles to destroy Akuma. Because of the black circles around his eyes, Lavi nicknames him 'Old Panda', which irritates him to no end.
He is voiced by the late Takeshi Aono in the Japanese version of the anime and R. Bruce Elliot in the English version, the latter of whom also voices Juugo Kannagi, Makarov Dreyar and Szilard Quates. In the Japanese version of D.Gray-man Hallow, he is voiced by Hochu Otsuka.
