Brewell was a man trying to change James Allen's ways in the film Animal.
He was played by NFL legend Jim Brown, known for his exploitation hit movies.
Unlike the others here, he was not imprisoned for any crime except for speaking out against the state. We first see Brewell when he runs into Animal. Animal is very mean to him at first when Brewell warmly asks him to lower the TV so he can read. They almost collide with each other, until Animal gives into him. He also gifts him with a book, about Malcolm X, allowing Animal to rise above his anti-intellectual state. He reads and is inspired. When he finally finishes the book, Brewell talks about Willie Lynch. This makes Animal cry. The last time we see Brewell is when Animal is rewarded parole, being he was not involved in a robbery. Just as Brewell is congradulating Animal, one of Kasada's men murders Brewell. This enrages Animal, however Brewell's last words are, "Break the chains," which helps Animal realize to stop the cycle.
