Brock Harrison (Japanese: タケシ Takeshi) is a major character in the Pokémon anime series. He is one of Ash's first traveling companions (alongside Misty) and the former leader of the Pewter Gym.
He is voiced by Yūji Ueda in the Japanese version, was originally voiced by Eric Stuart, who also voiced Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh!, in the 4Kids English version and is currently voiced by Bill Rogers in the TPCi English version.
Character[]
Brock is the best (human) friend and former traveling partner of Ash Ketchum. He originally trained Rock-type Pokémon, but has, since the second episode he appeared in, diversified. As he has stated in "Battling A Cute Drama!", his philosophy is that the important thing about being a Pokémon Trainer is the bond between Trainer and Pokémon. He is an experienced cook and caretaker by nature, so he always makes scrumptious food both for Pokémon and for humans.
One of his best known character traits is that he falls in love with every pretty woman he meets, particularly Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy, but was constantly put a stop by Misty or Max with an ear pull, or Croagunk with Poison Jab. He can tell whether they are real (women) or impostors as well. This "ability" has been used multiple times in the series. He has always held a supporting role in the series, usually contributing more in terms of wisdom and comedic antics than the action and battles of the series. Usually, Brock is obsessed with the girls in each episode of Pokémon franchise.
Appearance[]
Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, Gold and Silver, and To Be a Pokémon Master[]
Brock is shown wearing an orange short-sleeved shirt with a green vest with four large pockets on the front over it, brown pants, and blue and white sneakers. On either side of his belt, which was black with a gold rectangular buckle, he had attached brown belt pockets.
Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire[]
Brock is shown wearing a brown jacket with an orange collar. Under it, he wore a green undershirt, but he no longer wears a belt with his new brown cargo pants, and his shoes are a dark blue.
Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl[]
Brock is shown wearing an green short-sleeved shirt with orange vest (which also consists of gray) over it, and wears blue strap shoes and tan pants with knee-stitching.
Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon[]
Brock wears an almost identical outfit to his original one, the only difference is his vest has two pockets instead of four.
He would later dress in plain landform and cloudy blue sky-themed Alolan buttoned shirt, along with beige pants and blue shoes, during his and Misty’s visit to Alola.
Doctor outfit[]
In Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Brock initially wears a resident uniform worn by resident doctors consists of a white lab coat over his shades of blue scrubs and his blue-gray sneakers with white trim from his old outfit in The Beginning and Gold and Silver series. This is due to his occupation as a Pokémon Doctor. He later uses his Diamond and Pearl outfit.

Trivia[]
- Brock is known for being the very first Gym Leader that Ash faces.
- Brock's real dream is to become a Pokémon doctor. However, in Pokémon the Movie: Jirachi - Wish Maker, he said he wanted to become a magician because he could make "beautiful girls appear out of thin air".
- He can notice the small things that make each Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny physically different.
- In the episodes The Ninja Poké-Showdown, Who Gets To Keep Togepi?, and A Crowning Achievement, Brock actually temporarily has his eyes opened.
- Brock's eyes are rarely open, excluding the examples shown.
- Brock has appeared in every series except Black and White and XY/XYZ, although he only appears in flashbacks with Dawn and Ash.
- Despite not appearing in the Black and White series, Brock was mentioned several times by Ash and Dawn during Dawn's time in Unova.
- While it is never mentioned in the anime, the July 2006 issue of K-Zone Magazine revealed Brock's surname is Harrison.
- The reason why Brock temporarily left Ash and Misty (probably during the Orange Islands arc) according to former anime head writer Takeshi Shudo, was due to the upper management deeming that Brock's eyes are too narrow that will make people associate with Asians, whom the management believed that they are folks that Westerners cannot connect with. However, the management eventually decided to bring back Brock for some more seasons after realizing his popularity.
