Brynjolf is a Nord thief and member of the Thieves Guild in Riften. Brynjolf is second in command at the thieves guild.

He serves as the deuteragonist of the Thieves Guild questline in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

He is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes, who also voices the Medic from Team Fortress 2.

Role

Brynjolf is first encountered upon entering the Riften Marketplace for the first time. When spoken to, he will tell the Dovahkiin to meet him in the market the following day between 8 AM and 8 PM. There, he creates a diversion to distract the townsfolk and merchants so that the Dragonborn can steal a ring and plant it into an unsuspected merchant. Whether they are successful or not, he will direct the Dragonborn to the Thieve's Guild headquarters located in the Ragged Flagon, where he/she will be inducted.

Brynjolf helps the Dragonborn by providing advice for their jobs.

During the main quests line for the Thieves Guild, Mercer Frey betrays the guild and seeks his own fortune, in response, Brynjolf and the Dragonborn become members of the Nightingales, and track down the traitor to a Dwemer ruin where he will be in the process of stealing the Eyes of the Falmer. They manage to kill him and the Dragonborn takes the skeleton key back to Nocturnal, where they are rewarded for their actions.

Afterwards, Brynjolf will nominate the Dragonborn as a candidate for the new guildmaster.
