Buddy Gecko is recurring character from Rocko's Modern Life. He is a famous American vocalist known as the "King of the Lounge Circuit" and a literal lounge lizard. His name is a take-off of the real-life American singer Buddy Greco. Gecko and his music are greatly admired by Filburt who secretly hopes to emulate him. His oeuvre includes at least one album: Loungin' Around. Buddy is voiced by Tom Kenny, who is also voicing SpongeBob SquarePants, Leon, Dog and Eduardo, while his singing voice was done by Les Brown, Jr.

Character[]

Buddy first appears in the episode of A Sucker for the Suck-O-Matic, where he promotes the Suck-O-Matic brand vacuum cleaner on television and makes Rocko buy the Suck-O-Matic brand vacuum cleaner, which causes the events of that episode.

Buddy reappears in The Lounge Singer, where he is Filburt's idol and Filburt wishes to be a singer like him, Rocko reluctantly convinces Filburt to come sing in the O-Room to warm up for the upcoming performance. When he gets too nervous, Filburt finally takes the stage, finally turns down the performance, and leaves.

He is back in his motor home watching TV while he laments his hesitation on stage. It is not until he sees Buddy Gecko on television presenting his Geck-O-Netics cassette tape. Filburt quickly calls the number (which is the name of the cassette tape) and is seen in the living room with a Buddy Gecko motivational tape, which is used to boost his confidence. Without hesitation, Filburt finally performs his singing on stage, only to say an embarrassing lyric, prompting him to go back to his cassette tape to regain his confidence. Back on stage, Filburt succeeds and becomes a famous singer and will tour and sing in Las Vegas.

Then Buddy Gecko arrives, who sits on Filburt's cassette tape accidentally breaking it and tells Filburt that he came to see his performance. Filburt sees that Buddy Gecko sat on the cassette of him breaking it completely, Buddy seeing that it is the tape that he promoted in television commercials, tells Filburt that those tapes are useless and that he only did it for money.

Filburt returns to his nervous state, but Buddy tells him that he doesn't need the tape for his performance. This, however, does not motivate him, Buddy tries to convince the turtle to try it without the cassette tape and tells him to imagine the audience naked. When Filburt takes the stage, he sees the audience naked and regains his confidence (not realizing that this is a pig nudist performance). He performs his song and soon, Buddy joins in as well, giving the crowd an encore. After the performance, Buddy asks Filburt if he would like to accompany him on his stadium tour, but Filburt is quick to reject him, saying that singing on stage is not for him.

Buddy Gecko appears for the last time in the special Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, He appears in a cameo along with the multitude of characters, during the premiere of the special of The Fatheads.

Personality[]

Buddy Gecko is a very famous singer who is much loved by the public, however outside the stage, Buddy can be someone arrogant, conceited and greedy, since he usually sells useless products on television just to earn money thus showing his side. greedy and selfish, yet despite everything, He is very kind to Filburt, as he provided a couple of tips to help him feel less stage frightened in front of the public.
