Hero Overview

I'm B-127 by the way, but you can call me B. I'm actually working on some nicknames. The one I'm floatin' right now is Badassatron, which is actually pronounced... BADASSATRON.
~ B-127 introducing himself to Orion and D-16, and his most famous line.
WHOA HO HO! I got a battle mask! It appeared when this guy... knife hands?! I HAVE KNIFE HANDS!
~ B-127 being excited upon discovering his new abilities in the first trailer.

B-127, also known as B, is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Elita-1) of the 2024 animated film Transformers One. He is a former miner and later third in-command of the Autobots, as well as the new best friend and permanent sidekick of Orion Pax, later better known as Optimus Prime.

He is voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, who also voiced Toad in the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Murray in the Hotel Transylvania films, Dave in The Star, Judge Peckinpah in The Angry Birds Movie, Ducky in Toy Story 4, and Delroy in Migration, and portrayed Clarence Goobril in Keanu. In Japanese dub, he is voiced by Ryohei Kimura, who also voiced Hyde Kido in Under Night in Birth, Alfred in Fire Emblem Engage, and Tartaglia in Genshin Impact, as well as his various other incarnation like His reboot films counterpart, Cyberverse counterpart and EarthSpark counterpart.

History[]

Transformers One[]

Like most Autobots seen in this film, B-127 had his cog removed at creation before he was conscious and was taught that Cybertron's leader, Sentinel Prime, was a defender of its people from the evil Quintesson aliens after his allies, the Thirteen Primes created by Primus, fell in battle. He would also believe Sentinel's claim that he was searching for the Matrix of Leadership, an artifact that would restart Cybertron's flow of Energon and remove the necessity of miners. While it's presumed B worked as a miner for some time, he was kicked out and later sent to sub-level 50 for an unknown reason, possibly due to displeasing Sentinel Prime's enforcers for his non-stop talking. There, he would work in waste management on his lonesome for an incredibly long amount of time, creating small statues out of scrap to help with his loneliness. One day, B would encounter two miners, Orion Pax and D-16, who were banished to his level for their antics during the Iacon 5000 race and fell into a trap set by Sentinel Prime and Darkwing. B would immediately try to socialise with them after confirming they were real, much to the duo's chagrin, and would even start introducing them to his statues.

Suddenly, Orion would notice a blue light and garbled voice emanating from one of B's statues, Steve, revealing it to be a small chip holding a message from Alpha Trion, one of the late Primes, requesting backup against an unknown attack. Realising that the recording's coordinates could lead to the location of the Matrix of Leadership, which had been lost 50 cycles ago, Orion urges D and B to follow him and reclaim it, hoping to give it to Sentinel Prime and restart the flow of Energon. With B's guidance, the trio make their way up to the higher floors and enter a waste management train bound for the surface. Unfortunately, they're spotted by Orion's former mining supervisor Elita-1, who pursues them onto the train and attempts to stop it. A fight breaks out between the trio and Elita, during which the train arrives on the surface, revealing it to be a picturesque and constantly changing desert.

Suddenly, a sharp ridge of peaks erupts and crashes into the train, forcing the quartet to abandon ship. Elita is furious at getting left stranded in the desert, especially with the prospects of getting fired once again, but she begrudgingly decides to help the trio after seeing Alpha's recording. With Elita acting as navigator, the quartet advance into the desert, during which B tries to warm up to her to no avail. On the way, they enter a series of ruins covered in an alien flora and suddenly spot a Quintesson ship scanning for lifeforms to destroy. With the help of Orion, B narrowly dodges the ship's scanner whilst D and Elita hide, the latter being confused at the presence of an alien ship after 50 years.

Eventually, the quartet make their way into an overgrown cave where they discover the corpses of the Thirteen Primes: overgrown with flora but still recognisable. Orion soon discovers the body of Alpha Trion, who, despite having run out of power, is still alive. B quickly feeds Alpha a piece of Energon and he reawakens, confused at the presence of cogless Cybertronians in his presence and saddened at the deaths of his comrades. When Orion and D start explaining the supposed happenings of the last 50 cycles to Alpha, the Prime denies them and reveals that Sentinel has been deceiving the citizens of Iacon. Thus, Alpha recounts the true events of the final Quintesson-Cybertronian battle: after a series of stalemates against the Quintessons, the Primes would be alerted by their second-in-command Sentinel of a meeting between the Quintesson commanders, which they could seize as a chance to cripple the enemy coordination.

Unfortunately, this would turn out to be an ambush and while the Primes managed to take down most of the Quintessons, Sentinel would reveal himself as the mastermind, slaughtering the weakened Primes and stealing the Matrix of Leadership in an attempt to oust power from them. Deemed unworthy by Primus, the Matrix would dissolve in Sentinel's hands, halting the flow of Energon.

The miners are shocked and confused at Sentinel's betrayal, to which Alpha directs them outside and shows them Sentinel delivering Energon supplies to the Quintessons on the surface, even bowing to them and revealing that he betrayed the Primes so the Quintessons could put him in power. Furthermore, Alpha deduces that the miners had their cogs removed so as to keep them subservient to Sentinel, allowing him to pay his debt back without moving a finger himself. The miners are outraged, with D being the most outraged as he declares his intent to humiliate and kill Sentinel, much to Orion’s shock. Thus, Alpha bestows the cogs of the Primes upon the four miners, giving them the power to stop Sentinel, handing them a chip with a recording of Sentinel's crimes as well to prove their point to the citizens of Iacon. Sentinel's minions arrive, so the four go off while Alpha holds them back. Unfortunately, B trips and his screams attract more soldiers, forcing the quartet to transform, which they master after a little difficulty. They repel the soldiers and in triumphant spirits, move towards the waste management train tracks to return to Iacon, only to get ambushed and knocked out.

When the miners re-awaken, they find themselves held captive by a host of Cybertronians, with B being gagged thanks to his incessant chattering while unconscious. After managing to remove his gag, B recognises the bots as the Iacon High Guard, the most legendary fighters in all of Cybertron. Their leader, Starscream, reveals that he and his troops have been trying to sabotage Sentinel from the shadows after witnessing his betrayal 50 cycles ago and captured the miners under suspicion of them being spies. When Orion assures Starscream he isn't a threat and informs him of his plan to reform Iacon, Starscream dismisses his optimism, remarking that true unity is impossible and all that matters is the strength of one bot over the other. D, angered at the relative inaction of the High Guard, decides to force their cooperation by defeating Starscream in battle, making him their new leader when he urges them to fight back and make Sentinel pay for his actions. The High Guard are rallied but Airachnid, Sentinel's right-hand woman, manages to track the miners down and launches an assault, bombing the High Guard's base. Despite brave resistance, D, B and many High Guard members are captured.

B and the captive bots are brought before Sentinel in his tower, where they're bound in chains while Sentinel scoffs before them, revealing that he plans to execute the rebels as "traitors" to maintain his image. D, refusing to be humiliated by the tyrant, stands up to Sentinel but is knocked down effortlessly. Sentinel notices the Megatronus sticker on D's shoulder and mockingly compliments the Prime's strength, revealing that he stole Megatronus's cog after killing him to gain his strength. D proclaims that Megatronus was more of a Prime than he'll ever be, to which Sentinel, insulted, uses a laser to burn a crude drawing of Megatronus's face onto D's chest. B tries to encourage D to stand down but the miner refuses, to which Sentinel prepares to execute him with his cannon. Fortunately, Elita arrives on a waste management train ferrying the remaining High Guard soldiers, crashing into Sentinel and allowing the prisoners to be freed.

A brawl erupts in the tower between the freedom fighters and Sentinel's forces, during which he activates Megatronus's cog and starts dealing huge damage to the tower, causing even more chaos, while Airachnid and her troops try to intercept Orion who managed to recruit several miners to his cause. During the fight, B manages to activate his arm blades and battle mask, allowing him to deflect blows from Sentinel's troops and rend through them with ease. Sentinel re-emerges and barrages the rebels with rockets, so Orion quickly orders B and Elita to get to the radio transmission centre and hunt down Airachnid respectively, having realised that Airachnid's memories could be used to display evidence of Sentinel's guilt after she threatened Orion with her all-seeing eyes during his brawl with her, allowing them to expose Sentinel despite Alpha's chip getting destroyed in the raid. Thus, B slices open the doors to a radio broadcast centre and begins wrecking the place, though Orion and Elita, the latter holding an unconscious Airachnid she defeated, quickly curb his enthusiasm.

The trio upload Airachnid's memories to the transmission displays, revealing Sentinel's treachery and cowardice for all of Iacon and causing Sentinel himself to get distracted for long enough that D, who was fighting him solo earlier, manages to tackle him off the tower, mercilessly beating him and stripping him of parts on the way down. By the time the trio arrive on the ground floor, they find D brawling with Sentinel near a pit into Cybertron's depths, with Sentinel begging for his life and offering a share of his power to D. Orion begs for D to stop as Sentinel has already been exposed as a fraud but D, hell-bent on revenge, refuses and punches Orion away. When D blasts Sentinel in the face with his cannon, Orion takes the hit and is mortally wounded, falling into the pit. Catching him, D is horrified at accidentally hurting his best friend, but after considering how he was now standing in his way of achieving total vengeance against those who wronged him, D would drop Orion, leaving him to fall to his death.

With that, B and Elita would watch in horror as D ripped the crippled Sentinel in half, taking Megatronus's core for himself and rechristening himself as Megatron. Megatron would order the High Guard to destroy Iacon so as to rebuild Cybertronian society by their ideals, but while B and Elita tried to stop him, they were unable to keep up with Megatron and his newfound power. Just when all hope seems lost, Orion, deemed worthy of receiving the Matrix and given the title Optimus Prime, is sent back to the surface alive and well. Megatron is infuriated that Optimus was chosen instead of him as Cybertron's new hope and the two duel for control over the Matrix. Eventually, Optimus wounds Megatron and disarms him by slicing open his cannon, defeating him. Mourning the loss of his old friend to evil, Optimus chastises Megatron for using his newfound powers for evil and banishes him from Iacon, along with the rest of the High Guard which Megatron begrudgingly accepts.

With Iacon saved once again, Optimus uses the Matrix to restore the flow of Energon, returning everybody's cogs and freeing all of the city's citizens. Thus, now in charge of ruling the Cybertronians, Optimus founds the Autobots to protect the planet from all threats to its citizens' liberty, with B and Elita as his right-hand men.

In a post credit scene, B-127 returns to sub-level 50 to tell his "friends" about the Energon coming back, his transformation cog and weapons, as he opens his knife hands infront of them to reveal, but he accidentally ends up killing Steve (again) and A-A-Tron, much to his dismay.

Appearance[]

Like most depictions of the character, Bumblebee is a large yellow robot, with a helmet-like head that notably has two antenna-like flaps, hence his name. He also has the ability to transform into a vehicle resembling a yellow sports car with black stripes. While undoubtedly larger than humans thanks to being a Cybertronian, Bumblebee is noticeably smaller than most of his brethren.

Personality[]

Bumblebee is an energetic, upbeat, optimistic, friendly, but also annoying, immature and childish Cybertronian, enthusiastically greeting Optimus and Megatron when he initially met the two for the first time. He also has a habit of trying to make himself seem cool and edgy as he calls himself "Badassatron" on multiple occasions. He is very talkative when he annoys people even when he was unconscious as he annoyed both Shockwave and Starscream. Bee also appears to get extremely excitable when he discovers he can transform and summon weapons. But on the other hand he knows when to get serious, during when he and D-16 got captured, he briefly stood up to Sentinel to rightfully that they’re not traitors, but when D-16 stood up to Sentinel, showing no fear but then horrified seeing Sentinel cruelly carve Megatronus’ logo on his chest and tried to help him stand down so he doesn’t get hurt again but D continues to resist. And later after Sentinel’s defeat and death as D-16 becomes Megatron, betrays Orion and recklessly endangers everyone, B had to fight his former friend to stop him and save everyone.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Cybertronian Physiology: Bumblebee is a member of the Cybetronian race, a species of robotic aliens that are composed purely of metal and electrical components. As such, he stands much taller than the average human and has numerous abilities that are related to his robotic physiology.

  • Superhuman Strength: Bumblebee is incredibly strong thanks to his metallic body, being able to effortlessly slice through hordes of Death Trackers with ease. He also apparently possesses the upper body strength to keep himself running on the ground at incredibly fast speeds using just his arms, as shown when he undergoes an incomplete transformation into a car that leaves him without wheels.
  • Superhuman Durability: Bumblebee, like other Cybertronians, has a body composed of metal, allowing him to be flung into buildings and other structures with minimal injury. So far, he has survived rolling down a mountain and faceplanting himself into metallic soil without any visible injury. Bumblebee can also activate a battle mask which was hard enough to dislocate all the fingers on a Death Tracker's hand when he was punched.
  • Superhuman Speed: As Cybertronians tend to be much larger than humans, it can be assumed that Bumblebee is also incredibly huge, naturally giving him a high amount of speed in his normal form thanks to his larger strides. This allows him to briefly escape an expanding mountain ridge on the surface. Furthermore, Bumblebee can also use his car form to travel at speeds comparable to a regular race car.
  • Superhuman Agility: Thanks to his race car form, Bumblebee is capable of swift and quick maneuvers, allowing him unparalled agility among the Autobots. Thanks to his small size, Bumblebee is also comparatively better at dodging hits and landing them in rapid succession.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Being a Cybertronian, Bumblebee runs purely on Energon, an enigmatic substance prized for its high energy content that allows Cybertronians incredible stamina. Seeing as Bumblebee has been working in waste management for an exceedingly long amount of time with no visible resting place, it's likely that he can run on Energon without any rest for extremely long periods of time.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Upon gaining his transformation cog, Bumblebee seems to be able to activate certain aspects of his body by reflexes alone, instinctually activating his battle mask to deflect a blow from a Gold Tracker and energy knives when one attempts to sneak up on him.
  • Transformation: Upon gaining his cog Bumblebee can turn into a race car, allowing him to traverse terrain at extreme speeds. He can also activate a battle mask to shield his face, arm cannons, and energy knives to defend himself.
  • Longevity: As a Cybertronian, Bumblebee lacks any organic components and as such, can live for indefinite amounts of time so long as his spark burns and his mechanisms are maintained. Seeing as Sentinel, who was already thousands of cycles old by the time he betrayed the Primes, looks relatively unchanged in the modern day from his past, it's likely that Bumblebee and other Cybertronians don't age at all.

Abilities[]

  • Master Combatant: Thanks to his relatively small size and agility, Bumblebee is a highly skilled combatant, able to rush down enemies and defeat hordes of them with his sheer agility. This is shown by how he manages to slice and dice through whole hordes of Gold Trackers, elite robots created to serve as Sentinel's personal guard.
  • Scouting Skills: As his transformed form is a small race car, Bumblebee is exceptionally fast and nimble and as such, a perfect scout for the Autobots thanks to his ability to gather information quickly and undetected. However, he is also rather clumsy and a bit of a chatterbox, so he may not be very proficient in scouting in his regular form.
  • Intimidation Skills: Thanks to his array of weaponry, menacing battle mask and combat competency, Bumblebee is rather efficient at intimidating people despite his goofy disposition, managing to scare the radio station’s broadcasters into letting him off the hook for wrecking their property.

Arsenal[]

  • Retractable Weapons: Bumblebee is armed with an array of weapons that he can pull out at will. These include arm blades for close-ranged combat and blasters for attacking enemies at a far distance.

Quotes[]

I can't believe it. Well, obviously, I can believe it I just saw it. But, I still I can't believe it.
~ Bumblebee when learning the truth of Sentinel's true nature and betrayal.
THE CYBERTRONIAN HIGH GUARD!
~ Bumblebee when removing his gagged container and revealed the High Guard
Look, look, look! That's Starscream, and you're Shockwave, and Soundwave! Guys, raise your name if "wave" is in your name. There's alot of waves. (Starscream: SILENCE! The yellow annoying one is correct.) WOOO!!
~ Bumblebee recognizing Starscream, Shockwave and Soundwave.

Trivia[]

  • Bumblebee's voice actor Keegan-Michael Key has stated that he's a fan of the Transformers cartoon series.
  • Whenever he mentioned his self-proclaimed name, "BADASSATRON," his voice transformed to match the deeper vocal range reminiscent of Frank Welker's performances as characters like Soundwave and Dr. Claw.
  • The fact that Bumblebee is able to speak more often is a nod to the earlier versions of the character in the live-action films, where he was unable to communicate due to losing his voice box.
  • Despite the name being used heavily in promotional material and merchandising, he is never actually referred to as Bumblebee in the film. In fact, in the end credits, he is only referred by his original name, B-127.
  • Bee is the only one of the four main characters whose actor did not play any Marvel character: both Orion/Optimus and Elita's voice actors, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson respectively, played Thor Odinson and Black Widow in the MCU, and D-16/Megatron's voice actor, Brian Tyree Henry, played Jefferson Morales from the Spider-Verse trilogy and Phastos from Eternals, which is also from the MCU as well.
  • Bee is the only one of the four main characters to not lead any organisation.
    • That being said, it's possible that Bee may have once worked in close coordination with Sentinel's forces seeing as he recognises the High Guard despite never looking in the archives, with his remark at the end of the movie that he "always wanted to work with the government" possibly indicating he worked in security but not directly under Sentinel's command.
  • One of Bee’s model robots being called A-a-tron is likely a reference to a sketch Keegen-Michael Key performed in, in which he plays an inner city school teacher and incorrectly pronounces a student’s name, Aaron, as A-a-ron.
  • Some of Bumblebee's scene, like when he say "Badassatron" or running away from the rock tidal wave has become memes in the Transformers community.
  • The cog that Bee got from Alpha Trion in the cave is Micronus Prime's cog.
