Buzz Buzz is a bee-like alien from ten years in the future, who arrives in Ness's time by a meteorite that crashed in northen Onett.

History

Buzz Buzz came from ten years in the future that was destroyed by Giygas, to inform Ness about Giygas' plans. Buzz Buzz joins Ness, Porky and Picky on their journey, back to their houses. Before they go to their houses, a Starman Junior teleports to Ness's time to prevent Buzz Buzz from changing the past. Buzz Buzz protects the children and the Starman Junior is defeated. When Buzz Buzz, Ness, Porky and Picky get back, Lardna Minch the mother of Porky and Picky swats Buzz Buzz, mistaking it for a dung beetle. Because of Lardna's slap, the injuries that Buzz Buzz takes are grave. Before Buzz Buzz dies, it gives Ness the Sound stone and tells him to seek the eight "Your Sanctuary" locations. Its grave can be visited in Magicant, where it is located next to the house of the Flying Man.

Theories

There is a theory stating Buzz Buzz is somehow a version of Ninten from the ruined future in an artificial body. This can be inferred from the relationship between it and Starman Junior, who escaped in Mother and states that Buzz Buzz was once recognized as a hero. It also calls Buzz Buzz nothing more than an insect, directly mirroring Giygas's line from the end of the first game.

Trivia

• In Mother 3, one of the robots in Larda Minch's image in New Pork City's Beauty & Tasty restaurant will say "Aaaaayyyeee, I think it's a dung beetle!" which is the line she says when she meets Buzz Buzz.
• In the Japanese version of EarthBound, Mother 2, Lardna mistakes Buzz Buzz for a "pesky toilet fly" and tells it to die and "go to hell"; this was changed to "I'll smack your guts out!" This change was likely made to avoid explicit language, and was one of several religious elements of the game changed in translation.
• There has been no discovered official design for Buzz Buzz other than its in-game sprites.
