Clarence Payne Jr(mainly called, CJ, for short) is one of the main protagonists of Tyler Perry's sitcoms, "House of Payne". He's the nephew of retired Atlanta firefighter chief, Curtis Payne and Ella Payne, cousin of Calvin Payne, husband of Janine Payne(nee Shelton) and father of Malik, Jazmine, Jayden and Hayden Payne. At the start of the series, he was a normal firefighter that works along with his uncle, and cousin Calvin, until he eventually became the new Fire Chief Commissioner, inadvertently replacing his uncle, that led to the latter being retired. CJ in the new seasons of House of Payne, became a grandfather, after Malik got his girlfriend, Lisa, pregnant, and they both gave birth to a girl.
History[]
Not much is known, except CJ moved in with his Uncle Curtis and Aunt Ella, after his foster father died in a car accident. At some point during his high school years, he met Janine and some point after college, they gave birth to their 1st son, Malik. Years later, he learned that he was adopted and learns of his real father named, Clyde James, who's Caucasian married to his African-American mother, who died of unknown causes. His biological parents were also a traveling musicians.
In the original of House of Payne for the most part, C.J and his family were forced to move into his uncle and aunt's house, after Janine burned their original house down and subsequently finding out, she was a drug addict and had been stealing money from them , which caused a rift between them to separate and him being antagonistic towards her, when she came back clean from rehab to live with him uncle and aunt's house, until Calvin and Miranda's wedding. The rekindled and remarried couple(now with two new kids) eventually got their own new house in the same neighborhood with Curtis and Ella. His archnemesis is her late former drug employer, Blue, that was responsible in getting her addicted and having her steal from his family. Much later in the series, when Blue returns CJ came to terms in giving his respects to Blue, after learning Janine that he was dying of cancer, when the former came to her for help in her aunt-in-law's Christian Help Center, which she initially refused, due to her dark history with him.
