Callie is a major character in the Splatoon franchise. She is one of the Squid Sisters, alongside her cousin Marie, and also secretly works as Agent 1 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon.
She is voiced by Yuki Mizutani, also known by her stage name keity.pop
Appearance[]
Callie is a young Inkling woman with black tentacles with pink tips. Like her cousin Marie and fellow idols Frye and Pearl, she has golden pupils with cross-shaped irises. She has large, oval eyelashes and wears her hair in a twin tails hairstyle with two large tentacles at the back, with her bangs being parted to the left, and has a beauty mark on the left side of her face.
In the first Splatoon, she wears a large bow at the back of her head, as well as large earrings. She wears a black strapless romper with puffy pants that is covered in hexagonal sequins, with 3 pink slashes in it resembling cuts on Japanese grilled squid, as well as magenta tights and white gloves. She wears black boots with pink wedge heels and buttons, and on her head, she wears a hat resembling squid sashimi with a shiso leaf.
As Agent 1, she wears sunglasses and a surgical mask to disguise herself, as well as a pink beanie with a starfish piercing.
In Splatoon 2, while under DJ Octavio's brainwashing, she wears a black leather crop top with padded shoulders and pink stripes, with a zipper at the back and a spiked collar. Her midriff is exposed with a temporary purple octopus tattoo on her left, which is stated to be removable with hot water. She wears leather shorts with a spiked waistband, sequin-studded purple tights and black boots with skull-shaped buckles. On her head, Callie's hat now resembles octopus sashimi instead and she wears a pair of Hypnoshades which keeps her under mind control, as well as octopus sausage-shaped earrings.
After being freed from the brainwashing, Callie wears her pink beanie, along with a pink cardigan, light pink shirt, black shorts and pink socks, along with dull pink boots.
In Splatoon 3, Callie's squid sashimi headdress is now black with yellow spots, with her tentacle tips being tinted yellow as well. Her right tentacle is parted forwards, and her earrings are now iridescent. She now wears a black dress with 3 green stripes, as well as black boots and gloves. She also wears a silver choker and bandolier. In the DLC, she wears the outfit she wore in Splatoon 1, except her outfit has more details, such as buttons holding her collar and gloves.
Personality[]
Callie is characterised as being very upbeat and bubbly, and because of this, she is usually seen smiling. Her excitable attitude can be seen in Splatoon 3 as she can be seen having very energetic and exaggerated animations. She very deeply cares for her cousin Marie, the two having been very close since their youth.
She is also seen to be creative and adventurous, for example, in Splatoon 2's Hero Mode, it is revaled through one of the Sunken Scrolls that she is responsible for the glittery effects of the ink in that mode, and often gears towards the more positive option during Splatfests, for example her choices of Team Fit for the Fit vs, Rich Splatfest and Team Love in the Love vs. Money Splatfest. She also has a fear of heights and can suffer from motion sickness easily. She also states she used to work at Piranha Pit in the past, and at Walleye Warehouse with Marie.
Biography[]
Splatoon[]
Callie is seen hosting the news in Inkopolis Plaza, as well as Splatfests, alongside her cousin Marie. In Hero Mode, she and Marie appear as Agent 1 and 2 respectively, after Cap'n Cuttlefish is kidnapped by DJ Octavio. She and Agent 2 guides Agent 3 throughout the levels in Octo Valley and later, during Agent 3's fight with DJ Octavio, sings the Calamari Inkantation, distractng Octavio allowing Agent 3 to more easily defeat him and recover the Great Zapfish. This act of playing of the Calamari Inkantation is later revealed to be quite significant, as it inspired many Octarians, or at least Octolings, to break free from Octavio's control, such as Marina Ida or Agent 8.
Splatoon 2[]
After the events of the final Splatfest from the first Splatoon, her and Marie's popularity rose to new heights, and helped them develop solo careers, with Callie becoming a TV actress. Some unknown circumstances later leads to Callie being kidnapped and brainwashed by the Octarians, using a pair of mind-controlling sunglasses known as the Hypnoshades. At the end of the second Hero Mode, Marie and Agent 4 find her in what seems to be an Octarian stadium, alongside DJ Octavio. Marie uses a special substance she created known as low-tide ink to knock the hypnoshades off of Callie and free her from her brainwashing, causing Callie to rejoin her and sing a remix of the Calamari Inkantation called the Spicy Calamari Inkantation, once again distracting Octavio, making easier for Agent 4 to defeat him and rescue the Great Zapfish after it was stolen once more. As of the Version 3.0 update of Splatoon 2, if the player has beaten the Hero Mode, Callie can be seen at Cuttlefish Cabin talking with Marie.
For the Chaos vs. Order Splatfest, official sources revealed she was on Team Chaos, with her stating "even [she] wants to pop off every now and again".
Splatoon 3[]
After the new Agent 3 falls below the Crater and into Alterna, Callie appears alongside Marie and the old Agent 3, who has now been promoted to the Captain of the New Squidbeak Splatoon after Cuttlefish retired. The three members of the NSS help guide the new Agent 3 throughout the levels of Alterna. When Deep Cut show up and threaten the New Squidbeak Splatoon, saying that the Splatlands are their turf, Callie is simply enamoured, saying she "loves them". Sometimes, Callie can appear right outside of a level entrance after the player beats it, and occasionally, she can help out the player by giving them power eggs if you decide to talk to her. During boss fights and some levels, she also speaks for the Captain due to them being too shy to speak.
After New Agent 3 has fought all three members of Deep Cut and received their treasures, Callie can be seen in the building montage as her, Marie and the Captain make a lawnmower-like machine for the Captain to use in order to cut away all of the lethal Fuzzy Ooze blocking the way to the space center where Cuttlefish and Mr. Grizz are located, with the latter being previously revealed to have kidnapped the former. Deep Cut show up and attempt to threaten the NSS again in order to get back the treasure the NSS stole from then. Marie states that they're done with it, which shocks Deep Cut and makes them repent for fighting the Splatoon, with them even asking Marie to be their boss. This elates Callie as she jokingly says to Marie to have fun with them being her "new employees".
Callie, as well as the rest of the NSS, later find Cuttlefish drained and deyhrated by Mr. Grizz, who reveals his plans to coat the planet in his Fuzzy Ooze in order to bring back the mammals, which would also effectively result in all of the marine life that currently roam the Earth be wiped out, with Grizz even claiming it to be "the end of the world as you know it". Cuttlefish is revealed to be alive after the Captain sheds a tear on his body, albeit still and seemingly stuck in his frail, dried-up squid form.
After a brief moment of happiness after seeing her grandfather is still alive, Callie panicks as she states that they're still in danger because of Mr. Grizz, with Marie saying that there is no way of reaching the rocket that Grizz took off on. Suddenly, Deep Cut appear again and help New Agent 3 reach Grizz, with Frye creating a trail of ink using her eels, Shiver giving them her pet shark Master Mega, and Big Man giving them a space headset/helmet so that they can breathe in space while they fight Mr. Grizz. Callie later sings the Calamari Inkantation 3Mix along with Marie and Deep Cut, the song having a magical aura that allows Smallfry to transform into the Hugefry. This, along with help from DJ Octavio and his mech, allows New Agent 3 to weaken and defeat Mr. Grizz by vacuuming up the balls of Fuzzy Ooze on Grizz's body and firing the ooze back at him, saving the world.
Trivia[]
- Callie's favorite weapon class is the Roller, as she has said multiple times that she likes using them.
- The official relationship chart for Splatoon 2 implies that Callie joined the Octarians out of her own free will at first, or that DJ Octavio manipulated her into joining them.
- This could also be interpreted as Callie being more open minded to peaceful relationships with Octarians, with DJ Octavio manipulating her by using her good intentions.
- As shown by one of the Sunken Scrolls, the glittery effects of the Octarian Ink in Splatoon 2 were thanks to a brainwashed Callie publishing tips on how the Octarians could spruce up and decorate Octo Canyon.
