Calvin Cambridge is the main protagonist of the 2002 Sports Fantasy film Like Mike. He is an orphaned child who was given a pair of "sneaks" that used to belong to famous basketball player Michael Jordan.
He is portrayed by Bow Wow, who also portrayed Xavier Smith in Roll Bounce.
Biography[]
Calvin Cambridge is an orphaned child who is obsessed with basketball. Calvin loved playing basketball at the orphanage and would always get picked by fellow orphan Ox. When Calvin is assigned to sell chocolate bars for money at the local basketball stadium, He finds Coach Wagner in his car and is offered tickets for the next basketball game. The next day, Sister Theresa was handing it donations to the kids until Calvin found sneakers that had Michael Jordan's name on them. Ox tries snatch them from Calvin after knowing where they are from and throw them onto a telephone pole wire. Later, Calvin, Murph, and Reg set out in the night to get the sneakers. Calvin climbs his way into a tree to reach for the sneakers before they get struck by lightning. Afterward, Calvin and his friends go to the Staples Center for the basketball game. During a ticket draw at the game, Calvin's number was called, and was challenged to play against basketball player Tracy Reynolds. Calvin makes 3 impressive shots which qualifies him to be part of the Los Angeles Knights Team in the NBA.
Calvin finds out that the sneakers were the cause of his magical skill before winning 5 NBA games against various basketball teams. He and Tracy Reynolds go to a local pharmacy for sleeping pills despite Calvin's loud snoring. Tracy starts to fall asleep due to the strong effect of the pills he took on accident. Calvin drives Tracy's car back to the hotel to save Tracy from getting suspended from the team. He finds out that Bittleman was lying to him saying that he can't get adopted. Bittleman finds out that the sneakers were the cause of Calvin's fame before he and Ox find the sneakers from Murph and lock them into his safe so Bittleman can win a bet to get rich. Bittleman persuades Calvin to not wear the sneakers anymore so he can look nice for a family known as "The Boyd's". Calvin gets a call from Murph that Bittleman has the sneakers and rushes back to the orphanage to retrieve the sneakers before the game. Calvin and the orphans help him get the sneakers from Bittleman safe. Calvin rides his motorscooter back to Staples Center and begins playing against the Raptors. Calvin's sneakers get ruined and continues on the game in hopes of winning. Tracy makes the last shot for Calvin and Calvin's team wins the game. Afterward, Tracy Reynolds decides to adopt Calvin along with Murph and now live with Tracy.
