Carly Beth Caldwell is the overall main protagonist of the Haunted Mask saga of the Goosebumps series of children horror books, being the main protagonist of Goosebumps eleventh book, The Haunted Mask, its TV adaptation of same name (Which was also the Goosebumps TV series premiere), The Scream of the Haunted Mask, and a major protagonist in The Haunted Mask II. She is an easily scarable, 12 year old girl, who wants to scare her friends, Steve Boswell and Chuck Greene, who often take advantage of her frightable nature to make mean pranks to scare her. In this quest, she finds a strange and horrible Halloween mask, which she uses to scare her friends, but soon realizes that the Mask is alive, and is trying to take over her body. She succeeds in getting the mask off in the first time, but would face it again several times in the future.
She also appears in the 2015 film Goosebumps portrayed by Clare Halstead, and in the 2018 mobile game Goosebumps HorrorTown.

Haunted Mask (Book)[]
She is first seen in school along with her best friend, Sabrina Mason, where she is scared by behind by Chuck Greene and Steve Boswell, who are said to often pull mean pranks in her because of her scarable nature. They proceed to give her a hamburger, and when she eats it, she feels a strange and sour flavor in her mouth and realizes she ate a worm. While Steve claimed it to be a rubber worm, but Carly Beth felt it warm and figured out it was a real worm. She became horrified and disgusted and vowed revenge on Steve and Chuck.
After arriving home, she's scared by her brother, Noah, and by an extremely well-made and realistic wax version of her head, made by her mother, so she can always see her face as she loves her so much. Her mother then informs that she made a duck costume for her for Halloween. She wanted something horrifying to scare Chuck and Steve, not a cute costume. She went on trying to find a costume store that sell a very scary mask. She found a closed store, but its shopkeeper saw her in the window, and allowed her to enter, as it was Halloween night. She saw many good masks, and even some scary ones, but she wanted something to stand out, and saw a ajar door, but the shopkeeper asked her not to go inside it, but was distracted by a call in the store's phone, which let Carly Beth inside, where she saw a lot of masks, realistic and totally horrifying and scary masks. She found the perfect one, a scary, green, goblin like mask, with sharp teeth, glowing eyes, and almost seeming alive. While the shopkeeper said those were too real and couldn't be bought, the Shopkeeper gave up, and she bought it from him, despite him saying she'd be sorry for that.
She scares Noah, some unknown kids, and Sabrina on her way to found Chuck and Steve. Sabrina praised her realistic mask, and went on trying to find the two boys along with Carly. The Mask, however, became more and more thick over the time, and Carly Beth herself started to lose track of herself, saying disturbing things, threatening to kill people, going beyond the limits of Halloween pranks, and finally scaring Steve and Chuck as she wanted, which made them run. However she realized that the line between her skin and the Mask vanished, and the Mask was attached to her head. She went to the shop, and the Shopkeeper explained that those masks were created by him, and became ugly and neglected, being called the Unloved Ones. They take over their user's control of their body, and can only be removed with a proof of love. All of the Unloved Ones suddenly came to life and attacked the Shopkeeper and Carly Beth, but she managed to run, and remove the Mask with the wax head her mother gave her as a proof of love. She goes home and tells her mother everything, before her brother walks in and asks how Carly's mask fit on him.

She first appears walking with her best friend Sabrina to pick up her pumpkin for Halloween but then gets frightened like usual from Chuck and Steve the two most mischievous boys in her school. Due to her being a timidly coward she gets frightened easily by anything which made her want to were a scary costume for this year’s Halloween. She sees an old local clothing store owned by an old British man who warns her about wearing the mask because it’s haunted but she didn’t believe him at first and she took it and decided to use it for revenge on Chuck and Steve for humiliating her one time to many. When she dons the mask she struggles to get it off and realize that the shop owner was right about it being haunted. She begs to be herself again and when she uses the sculpted head of herself she was able to finally realize that friends and family are most important in life. When she removed the mask she buried it and became a much better person.
