“ | I'm not the sentimental type. Tough to be in work like this. But if I was sentimental, it'd be for a gun. Maybe it'd be old, passed down over generations. Maybe my father would've taught me how to hold it. And he'd remind me it wasn't about when I chose to shoot it, But how often I chose not to. He'd make it so that when I did use that old, rusty pistol, When I made me own choice, I'd think of him. About how disappointed he'd be. But it's like I said, I'm not the sentimental type. So it's just a fuckin' gun. | „ |

Biography[]
Background[]
Carver Butcher was born around the late 1800s to the early 1900s in the United Kingdom to unnamed parents, and later in his adulthood enlisted in the British Army. During the height of the Second World War, Butcher would reach the rank of captain, and became an agent of the Special Operations Executive. He participated in Operation Devon in Termoli alongside the 78th Infantry Division, and fought against the 16th Panzer Division. During the operation, Butcher was injured in battle due to explosive shrapnel, and was dismissed and sent to the headquarters until he could return to service.
Call of Duty: WWII[]
In WWII, Butcher appears the quartermaster during the Winter event, replacing Corporal Green and providing contracts and assignments to players. While giving orders and assignments, Butcher eagerly waited to return to the battlefield, stating that he was looking forward to put some fear into the Nazis. Once he fully recovered from his injuries, Butcher returned back to the fight where he saw resistance fighters, but would return to the headquarters as the quartermaster once again.
Call of Duty: Vanguard[]
In Vanguard, Butcher appears as the multiplayer announcer for every mode, but acts as a unseen pivotal character in the campaign since he recruited each member of Task Force Vanguard.
Butcher's journey is further explored in the comics, where he is seen recruiting British officer Arthur Kingsley, Soviet sniper Polina Petrova, Australian demolition expert Lucas Riggs, American pilot Wade Jackson, and Yugoslav Partisans safecracker Milos Novak. Though some show reluctance due to their current objectives, Butcher managed to convince each one to join him in the S.O.E.'s mission to find intelligence on the secret Nazi project code named "Phoenix". Before the team traveled to Hamburg, Germany on the train, Butcher met with the team as they waited for Kingsley to arrive with his right hand and confidant Richard Webb. Vanguard would succeed in finding intel on "Phoenix" and stopping Hermann Freisinger's plans to form the Fourth Reich from the ashes of the third. Despite the deaths of Novak and Webb, Vanguard would continue to fight against the surviving Nazis since the party started covert operations across the globe.
Following the success of Vanguard's mission, Butcher gave Kingsley, Polina, Lucas and Jackson leadership of their own special units as he continued to recruit others to stop the Nazis' covert operations. The Allied Powers succeeded in defeating the Axis Powers and winning the war, but Butcher and the others continued to fight against the surviving loyalist to the Nazi regime. Due to Vanguard's intel from Freisinger's plane, Butcher would form other task forces to investigate the Nazis plans across the globe, starting with Caldera with Task Force Trident. Flying the team to the island, Butcher was shot down, forcing him to crash land as the others landed on the island to clear the area. Once he landed on Caldera, Butcher came across a secret Nazi bunker, and found more intel that the Nazis were active in the alps. Carver then worked with Task Force Yeti to enter the Nazis' base, where the group were forced to escape from the area when a Nazi soldier released a toxic gas.
After the operation, Carver assigned Task Force Harpy operatives Mateo Hernandez, Kim Tae Young and Florence Carter to intercept a Nazi's cache that contained prototype weapons. Following the end of the war, Butcher became a member of Task Force Immortal and went after a Nazi helicopter full of gold.
Butcher would live after the end of the war, but later retired from the S.O.E. and the British Army. It's unknown what happened following his retirement, but it's presumed that he continued his pursuit on stopping the remnants of the Nazi Party and the Fourth Reich.
Call of Duty: Warzone[]
Butcher appears a major character in Warzone, appearing in the Black Ops Cold War storyline after the events of Vikhor "Stitch" Kuzmin's campaign. After the destruction of Verdansk by CIA agent Russell Adler, Butcher traveled to the city where he found an underground Nazi bunker. He then encountered CIA agent Russell Adler and his teammates Alex Mason, Frank Woods and Jason Hudson, who ordered Carver to identity himself. Butcher explained that he was an ally and not a foe to the group, and went to tell them how he found Vanguard and other special operations groups to hunt down remnants of the Third Reich.
Call of Duty: Mobile[]
Butcher appears a playable character in Mobile, being added in season nine.
