~ Hogarth Hughes to the Iron Giant |
A Gentle Giant is a hero/heroine who, despite standing at an intimidating size and/or height and showing a brutish appearance, choose to exhibit no violent behavior towards anyone or anything around them, despite all of the strength they have at their disposal. They often take it upon themselves to defend those who are smaller and weaker from their antagonistic counterparts, Bullies. While most gentle giants have absolutely no intentions to bring harm, some of them have been shown to have issues with their temper, or just be very clumsy, leading to outbursts or accidents that unintentionally bestow the exact harm that they were trying to prevent. Regardless, a gentle giant is good hearted at nature. In some case, Gentle Giants' true form is not their monstrous/gigantic form, but instead individuals whom size are at least equal with small/average humans, but possesses powers to transform into gigantic form, either permanent/temporary. Example in this case is Alphonse Elric, the huge animated suit of armor with robust and intimidating appearance, but actually a young man with average height whom had his soul forced to moved into a gigantic suit of armor as result of freak accident when he and his brother practicing alchemy.
Perfect examples of this are Baymax, Eduardo, and Bulkhead. Examples of those whom posesses traits of Gentle Giants in the least extent (nor good or evil, but simply prefer not to harm anyone that happened to get in their way while fighting enemies or simply left the innocents unharmed) is Godzilla (specifically his 2014 Reboot counterpart) and King Kong.
