A '''martyr''' is a character that suffers many near-death experiences, and (almost) lethal injuries. Actually, they sometimes go through so much pain (some even lose body parts) that the audience starts to wonder whether they'll survive.

Note: Do not mix Tragic heroes and Martyrs. While the first category suffers ''psychological ''torments, the other suffers ''physical ''pains. For example, a Disney hero is often tragic, but less often a Martyr (to avoid shocking young viewers). However, in some cases, a hero can be both a Tragic hero and a Martyr. [[Simba]] is a perfect example of this.
