“ | Always let your conscience be your guide. | „ |
~ Jiminy Cricket and The Blue Fairy |
“ | I haven't decided to do squat. I saved this kid because I wanted to, you hear me? What about you? I seem to recall you putting your life on the line to save me last night? Tell me, were you really thinking about your duty when you rushed to help me? Of course not! That's the last thing on your mind when you save someone! At the very least, I choose to be different! | „ |
~ Ichigo Kurosaki to Rukia Kuchiki, declaring he'll help souls out of compassion, not duty |
Neutral Good is known as the "Conscientious" alignment. A Neutral Good character is guided by their conscience and typically acts altruistically, without regard for/against Lawful precepts such as rules or tradition, as well as Chaotic actions of lying and deviation.
A Neutral Good character has no problems with co-operating with lawful officials and rules but does not feel beholden to or affiliated with them. In the event that doing the right thing requires the bending or breaking of rules, they may or may not suffer the same inner conflict that a lawful or chaotic character would, and if they do, then perhaps not as seriously.
Some Neutral Goods have a mix of Lawful qualities and Chaotic qualities (e.g., Wander and Betty Barrett)
By the character alignment name, one should not be fooled. Neutral Good characters are not actually "neutral" in terms of morality. They are the opposite of Neutral Evil who are mostly neutral in terms of ethics but on the evil side. Pure Goods can very often be Neutral Good (in fact, there are currently more Neutral Good Pure Goods than the Lawful and Chaotic Pure Goods) if they display no corrupting qualities and everything they do is for everyone's benefit and well-being (e.g. Luigi, Android 16, Link, Quasimodo, Spider-Man (MCU), Miles "Tails" Prower, Aris Tendou, Batman (The Batman), Anne Boonchuy, Courage, Gizmo, Hiccup, and Izuku Midoriya).
They are the Ethical Neutral counterpart of Lawful Good and Chaotic Good.
